I tried for that first spot over and over... didnt want a Sandy to beat me lol... Couldnt do it but I did improve on my score a bit just forgot to post it, I hope I can find it now that its been a few months.  I thought for sure I would be able to take down that Sandy but she overclocks so dam good :)

It's sold now. Sold it to a girl in my class that wanted a desktop machine. So now she writes documents and plays minecraft on one of the words best 2600K :)

WE NEED TO FIND HER

Interestingly enough, she works at the same place i work now. So not that far away :). About 50 steps.. lol

Well, if Umart does what they say they are going to do, I will be assembling and testing the new rig tomorrow night. They've royally screwed up the timeframes necessitating me visiting 2 separate stores to get my parts if I don't want to wait until next week for it. I don't mind per se, but it's annoying. I wish I had the budget and time to wait and grab X99 but Z97 will have to do me for a few years now. At least that will give DDR4 time to settle down and get better and for a new chipset and cpu series to release so no big deal (I hate brand new tech, too many issues. I prefer a new standard to settle down).

It's been a trial waiting on these parts but hoping it overclocks like mad and I can continue my golden run in the silicon lottery.

dam man sounds like you have a fight on your hands to get your parts :/

So, I found the result that I thought would have claimed 2nd all to myself but it was a decimal off duh!  Its at 7.161 and thought it was 7.016.... looking forward to seeing some more results here soon :)   I know when running futuremark benches, I cant go over 5ghz anymore, so I dont think Ill be able to submit much more here until next upgrade.  Ive really abused this cpu since Ive owned it

Edit:  Tried about 20 more times... I can get in the 7.02 range but cant get lower.  32m is a few secs off..  Whats sucks is going 6+mins then fail!

dam man sounds like you have a fight on your hands to get your parts :/

You have that right. The parts still aren't here. I have been so royally dicked around by them. They have started suggesting a Sabretooth Mk2. I got a little sarcastic with the rep on the phone eg

Me - "Look at my parts list and tell me what you notice about the colours"
Guy - "They're all black and red".
Me - "What colour is the Sabretooth?"
Guy - "Khaki/Brown and black"
Me - "Does it sound like I want a mismatched motherboard after 3 weeks of waiting on a specific model that matches everything else in the rig? A part that your website listed as in stock and I was promised would arrive over a week ago?"
Guy - "No, no it doesn't"
Me - "Sorry for sounding like a complete bastard, but there's your answer"

Could I have handled that better? Sure. But it's coming up on a 3rd week since I sent my order. Every due date I am told it's 1-2 days more, or to wait until after the weekend. Frankly, I am fucking tired of it. I have a system where I can count by the day how many errors the last remaining storage drive is ticking up. It is nearly at the point of failure and I was expecting to have a replacement PC by now and have transferred all of my games, movies, music, and pictures before they all die. For a week now it has been completely disconnected because I don't want it to fail while I wait. Lightning strike killed most of the rig, that drive is at it's EOL as well.

I think I have a right to be a little angry after waiting with the patience of a saint up til now.

With luck, tomorrow, again. If it's delayed again I will be telling them not to bother and driving an extra hour to Ipswich to get the damn motherboard.

So, some new results in before I go to bed. Gotta finish the build log tomorrow too.

7-644.png

6-51-420.png

4.7 @ 1.301v. From what I can tell that is a decent standard voltage for this OC. Gets me back on the leaderboard, but I have to try harder haha.

EDIT - had to up the volts a little. wasn't completely stable - crashed after a few hours of benching.

EDIT - had my fun for now. I want to play some games so dialed it back to 4.6 and upped the gpu. Also tried to flash it to a 290X but the drivers don't play so nice with the new bios. Accidentally flashed it to a MSI Lightning BIOS as well and bricked one of them. Will have to get a 250 or something super cheap so I can get back into that particular BIOS and reflash it to stock.

Ok OP has been updated with Modz, jdog and my own new results.

After so long I've finally been able to dethrone smakme from 2 of his perches lol. Had to throw 2 extra cores at it to win though :O

Seems MaxxPi spends half it's time multithreading and the last half doing something with just a single thread, so unfortunately it's not as truely multithreaded as I'd hoped and probably why smakme's score is so strong.

Looking at wPrime again as a better alternative, but it seems to be a dead project with no checksum or proof the CPU didn't mess up So that's off the list.

I just came across y-cruncher which looks quite promising. Still in active development, checksum output. I've sent the author an email for some clarification on the checksum bit and a couple of suggestions.

What do you guys think? I think it looks like a worthy MaxxPi replacement. Linux support too.

EDIT: Seems the author might be poke349 over on XS forums.

Wow, nice results. The 5930K is what I've been looking at. A really nice CPU.

I'm kind of glad I'm starting to get "dethroned" now. Those scores have been there for years.

Haha yeah they have. As I noted though It's likely due to the issue with MaxxPi I observed meaning it's just as reliant on single threaded performance as multithreaded, and so kinda is the reason I want to get rid of it now. I guess you could say it's a balanced test, but still not truly multithreaded.

After talking with the y-cruncher author a little there's one draw back to his program. It's constantly changing and improving. A new version would render benches with previous versions likely slower on the same CPU and OC.

See this page of version benchmarks of his program.

As you can see, over time he's cut compute times by more than 2/5. And as new CPU architectures with new extensions come out he'll likely be improving it even further.

So basically if we do use y-cruncher, a ranked table will only be good if we pick a version and stick with it, forever. Or we simply rebench every now and then when a new version comes out that further improves compute times. I'm leaning towards the latter, would give people here a reson to return and rebench more often than what happens now.

Thoughts?

Another good thing about it is that AMD CPUs should become more competitive again as he's also got AMD exclusive extensions built in too, so would be interesting to see how they go.
