Re wPrime - you need to set the Properties (all users) to "Run as Admin...".  It should work OK once that's done.

If there's undue delay for startup, hold Shift.  You'll also probably need to set # of threads.

Found my benches from the old Core2 Duo E8400.  This thing runs stock at 9*333 = 3 GHz but was another landmark legendary overclocker.

I've got 3 of them but only played around with one.  I managed to get it to about 4.293 GHz according to my notes.  This was from a session about 6 months ago on the watercooled machine I've got.  I have a bunch of DDR2 modules though not really any stuff aimed at extreme OCing though the Ram I used at the time would have been the fastest I had available.

At 4.293 (477*9, Ram @ 954-6-6-6-23) I got the following results:

CPUMk99 620

SuperPi 1M 10.998s

wPrime 32M 2T 18.94s

Gave wPrime a try again.

Ryzen 7 1700X @ 4075MHz w/2400MHz RAM

wPrime 32M 16T 3.7s - 5.2s it wouldn't give me a consistent result. most were in the mid 4s

Ryzen 7 1700X @ 3950MHz

wPrime 1024M 16T 96.9s

I'll bench up with the 1700 to see if I can match anything there, Mark...

Not too shabby score there.  wPrime just laps up extra cores and even hyperthreading can give a big improvement.

Actually, that's another thing worth trying - get comparitive scores with #threads set to <physical cores> vs the same run with <logical cores>

Or better yet disable SMT. Something many tests have shown to work better with (because they don't know how to handle SMT properly, like hyper threading, which is the same but I understand implemented differently).

I can't do any more benches, had to hand the system back. A reviewers lament.

Was fun while I had it.

Look forward to seeing what you can cook up Sora! Especially with the higher rated RAM.

These CPUs really do need water cooling though. The air HSF I had couldn't really cope with the higher OCs with all cores enabled. Had to disable 6 as seen in my previous posts so I could push it to 4.25GHz to keep temps in check.

AMDs TDP does not equal Intel TDP ratings. Ryzen pulls as much as Broadwell-E at full tilt. Needs the cooling to match really.

ATM, there's a new BIOS out which should increase RAM speeds as most users on reddit noted a significant improvement so I'll have to test that and check it out.

Had to order some AM4 parts for my loop, should have some test up here in a week.  Look forward to seeing others results!

ATM, that's probably the limit given the cooler is almost running out of puff. I'll need to get the AM4 bracket for the Noctua NH-D14 in order to really push it.

For what it's worth, the old Core2 Duo E8400 at a near frequency (with DDR2 Ram):

408x9 = 3,672 MHz  12.87s  with DDR2 @ 408/5-5-5-15

412x9 = 3,708 MHz  12.714s

Closest time for E8400 I have listed is 11.372s, to get that speed it was 406x9 = 4,230 MHz, I think the Ram was 406/6-7-7-23

I've probably got some first-gen Core i7 scores somewhere I could dig up, will look later.

Nice one Sora. Yeah they need proper cooling to explore their potential fully.

What temps you currently getting?

vcore you can safely go up to 1.45v according to AMD people. You'll need to to get 4GHz+

I think 1.4125v was the sweet spot on mine for around 3.9GHz stable.

Pushing to 4.25GHz the one I tested started auto shutting down around the 90C point (after adjusting for +20C readings AMD admitted to on X models. Yes it was reading 110C lol). Not as good in that respect as Intel which'll let you hit 100C.

@mark, temps is about 70C core temp at worst case scenario (IBT 3 hours worth) so I can push a little higher given the voltage. But the cooler is the limiting factor as the Spire doesn't have a lot of thermal headroom once you hit beyond 3.5GHz. I've already sent the invoice and proof to Noctua and we'll see when they'll ship.

Quick update, screenshots later once I figure some setting out.  Have the OS loaded and most updates done.  Ran a few short Prime95 large for 5-10mins up to 4.1g, just ran out of time for the day.  Temp I guess I need to look at the Package but read that the X series has a +20c offset.  Running my core say at 1.5v only give around 1.37v.  Ill probably need to mess with LLC.

4.1g @ 1.5v(actual with load is 1.375v)
Ram:  2933mhz @ 16cl
SuperPI 1m gave:  10.158
Package is 73c and THRM 53c (These literally follow 20c apart in HWmonitor, Master shows Package temp)

Still running thru setting check stability but doubt that 4.1 @ 1.375(set at 1.5v) is going to be stable long term.

Edit: 4.1g failed prime95 screen black after Idk 10mins probably. Give a go after messing with llc tomorrow

Edit 2:

4250.png

Broke into the 9's @ 4241ghz with 1.5v  :)

Looks like 4ghz is prime stable @ 1.375v, have the LLC @ lvl 1.  Need to explore pstates as load vs idle is quite different, possibly offset can be used too.  With my two rad fans at 1000rpm and pump at 2/3 speed, Im hitting 85c after an hour on Package, 65c on THRM.  When I load biostar GT, it shows the THRM for the cpu temp but Ryzen Master uses Package lol.

Nice gamble! What speed ram u running it with/at?

I tried so hard to get sub 10s lol Definitely the RAM at regular 2400MHz speeds wasn't helping me.

Thx,running ram @2933 16cl. Cant go over that yet, but maybe in a bios update I hope to get to the rated speed of 3200. Will revist when bios gets another update. But I'll do a few runs with the same clock 4ghz and different ram speed to see the difference it has
