nice rig aliali... my ancient 2500k oc'd to 4.2 is still fine on the games i play at 1440k with a gtx760 oc  (having ram at 2133 helps)

but i reckon a 1060 6gb would be a sweet upgrade; 1070 is overkill at the price for my needs, but having the equivalent of a 980 at the power draw of less than my current video card would be the shizzle

addit comment on the drone : it was pretty amazing that i could solder the bits for camera and flashing to the board on the quadcopter - a few years ago i couldn't solder at all, and now 2mm spaced pins seem pretty reasonable :

Nice, but you may need to redo the left hand one. The dimple around the wire suggests not quite enough heat on the wire itself. Perhaps just keep an eye on it for possible connection issues.

Ye the power efficiency of the modern CPUs and GPUs is pretty bloody amazing.

it's only in use during flashing, so no biggie, as it only gets jiggled rarely

but if i need to pull the thing apart again, i'll fix that... ta !

Acer Helios 300

It's the lower end model but has the 256GB SSD (I have a 256GB SSD lying around the house for the second drive).

A USB floppy drive from a Salvo shop.  By the looks, never been used.  I just tried it and found it to work and will put it away possibly never to be used again.

But beats having to setup an internal one and will allow me to throw out the pile that I've kept in storage.

As I'm heading off to India in January, I figured I'd get myself a more appropriate (and cheaper) phone. My current phone is a Pixel XL.

I spent a week researching different phones, looked at $200, $300 and $400 handsets.

Important things to have were 2x 4G SIM Slots and a separate MicroSD slot.

Only 2 hit my shortlist, an LG Q6 and the Oppo A77

The only downside to the Oppo handset is that it only has Marshmallow 6.0, and no idea if it will ever be upgraded to Nougat 7.0

Problem with Chinese handsets is they get zero updates.

I figured I could handle a 6.0 handset, and consider it a bonus if it ever gets update to 7.0

There's more "hardware" in the Oppo than the LG

I found Android 7 (N) not that different to Android 6. Android 8 (O) takes some getting used to ...

Well, my trip to India is getting closer, I have my tickets, and just about everything I need is ordered.

Some Rupee:

DQ0iIjLUMAEM1_y.jpg

A 20,000mAh (77Wh) powerbank (3-port, 3A/port and 6A Max) (Has 2x 2A input ports too!)

I already owned a pair of Aldi Bluetooth headphones, but I wasn't particularly interested in taking them as they were pretty bulky, but then I saw Aldi had a Noise-Cancelling version, for $79.99! Perfect, exactly what I need.

my first foray into fpv  :)

that's a silverised h8s-3d  (basically a toy that i've flashed to dual / acro mode) and a dinky akk bs2 camera, plus floureon f640 goggles - looks like star trek was their designer's inspiration

not good enough to fly in acro mode yet, but i'm practising.... binds to the multimodule in my taranis, so i can drive it using a fully pimped high end transmitter

You FPV too? Neat!

I've just finished builfing my first 2 quadcopters, and have the 3rd on the way.

I built them all from scratch, Diving STRAIGHT into Acro, because every racer says that learning the 'easy modes' makes the transition harder. Just crash lots to begin, and advance quickly.

How do you find those goggles? I'm still using Box Goggles myself.

Just arrived, and it wasn't really a purchase so much as a reward for financially supporting the ExoLife Finder telescope project:

Wow, nice one cybrs.

Thanks. I was/am pretty stoked too.

In case you're wondering, the glyphs aren' t just meaningless scribble. It's a 24-hour clock, and the markings show more famous known exoplanets, their distance, and the constellation they appear in.

Goes really nicely with the cube I got for backing Phase 1 of the project.

Score!

From a Salvo shop, an airmouse (Kogan branded) new in wrapper never used.  Same externally as my other one from eBay.

But this one has the proper rechargeable L-ion phone type battery instead of taking 2xAAA.  Cost 2 bucks.

The main use of them is HTPC or surfing on the TV.  I don't use mine a lot but they're good for controlling a computer you're doing builds or installs on but don't want the clutter of extra kb and mouse.
