The Wonder Boy/Monster Land games are so confusing. Not the games themselves, but trying to work out exactly what each game is! Loved the third video. The old PC was neat, but retro consoles is where I'm at. So jealous of all your Sega stuff. I always had to play Sega games on friends' consoles, since I only had an NES up until the PSX generation. Specifically jealous of the Sonic & Knuckles lock-on cart, I could Sonic 3 & Knuckles as one of my favourite game experiences ever, yet I don't even own a Mega Drive.

I'm constantly pestering Squall about his retro pc knowledge, retro gaming on pc is epic. The older consoles never held the same kind of sway over me that PCs have.

I can certainly appreciate old PC gaming, I grew up with a variety of Amstrad and IBM Windows compatibles, but I guess the NES is where I got most of my memorable gaming experiences from. That said, the Amstrad CPC in particular I remember having a lot of fun on, I just wish I could remember the names of a few more games I had!

Episode 4 is live!

I wanted to have my first RGB cable done this week, but without my RGB->YUV converter box, I wouldn't have been able to demonstrate it, so that's on hold for another week.

Today I did a quick unboxing video of my copy of Space Quest 3, including all the sound card related stuff Sierra included, to get you to buy an AdLib or MT-32 off them.

Enjoy!

Episode 5 is up.

Another week passes and my converter box is still hiding. :(

Still two-for-the-price-of-one this week! An overview of a nifty use for the Raspberry Pi, and some footage of Silpheed for DOS with Tandy sound and graphics.

Thanks! And yea, I do like the way Silpheed sounds on the Tandy. It's very similar on the CMS/GameBlaster as well. I have 12 subscribers on the youtubes now, that's 12 more than I could have wished for! Thanks for watching, y'all! :)

Well, I'm a happy little Vegemite today...

It finally arrived!

Posted Image

So I made up the cable for the Master System. The components will be hidden in a little box eventually, the thickness of the cables means there wasn't enough room to hide the components inside the SCART plug.

The picture initially had a green tint to it, so I popped open the converter and fiddled with the trimpots a little.

Posted Image

The results are well worth the effort! Note how the red colour of the hearts doesn't bleed into the grey area. The individual pixels are well defined and visible.

After (SCART RGB to Component YUV):

These images need to be viewed at full size to really see the difference:

It was, I got it moved to Tech Talk, since it's not really about the games themselves at this stage. :)

Haha, didn't see that, I've just played it so much I thought it was the music from it. Awesome stuff. I really enjoyed that video.

Hi guys, sorry for the lack of video'age so far this week. I have the footage and commentary all shot and recorded, but when I sat down to start editing on Sunday night (aiming for an overnight upload and "live and public" on Monday morning), my brain decided it was too big for its cavity, and I've been having awful throbbing headaches since. Nothing excruciating or foetal-position-inducing, but very uncomfortable, blocking me from spending extended periods on a computer . It's eased up and I feel somewhat better tonight, hopefully after a nice long sleep I'll be able to get stuck in to iMovie and upload this beeyatch tomorrow. Watch this space, friends! :)

Episode 7 is live!

This week, a quick look at a horrible bit of shareware. Enjoy it, then avoid the game forever. Seriously.

Anyhow, the missus and I are going away on for the weekend, so episode 8 will be made next weekend.

Latest video makes me sad that you don't get free games with pizza anymore, though it also might be a good thing if the games were all as terrible as that!
