It certainly explains why he is so preoccupied with US forces "pulling out."

I'm guessing Trump wants the illusion them US troops aren't need in South Korea so he can go deployment somewhere else ... like near Iran for example, or in Japan.

South Koreans not fooled Kim new agreement with Trump. So they should be, they know the North better than trump does.

"Retired lieutenant-general In-Bum Chun..."

that is...er...wow...thats quite a name.

"Chun In-Bum"  that's certainly a name to deal with . I must say the pic of the man given that title has a strong face with a 'set jaw' look

Russia thrashes Saudis 5-0 in World Cup. Wonder how much Saudis were paid off to lose badly ... looking at the highlights, they weren't even really trying to win

:)

It's a bit hard to bribe Saudis, they just really were outclassed this year. I think they simply knew they were going to lose against a superior team so they just didn't bother - a very Arabian mentality actually.

Cheers

Russia deserved to win but the scoreline was bit flattering ...

They're 3 apart in the FIFA ratings, though Saudi higher @ 67.  But really it's natural to expect wild fluctuations in teams below 50 and home advantage to Russia.  Australia at 36 which is a bit of a surprise.

Russia only qualified because they were the host!

32 teams, so yeah.  Though we tend to get in due to the automatic handicapping that the grouping system provides.

Saudis last win in the world cup finals was in ... 1994. They lost to ze Germans 8-0 in 1998, so they are just doing what do best.

They made the knockout stage Round of 16 but lost.  So I'm not sure that even counts as playing in the finals.

It's surprising really, I've seen them play, they are pretty good, but the Europeans and Russians are like machines.

Smaller nations don't have the huge leagues like they have in South America and Europe so there's less depth in the talent pool to pick from.

Australia in particular has this problem.

Not really.  The "problem" is that Soccer is a very distant 4th placed football code here.  The interest factor under 10% where in places like England it's probably more like 60, Brazil more like 80+

It is what it is.  IMO the figure here is commensure with the value of playing or watching the game (excluding money).  Personally I find the game somewhat boring to watch and didn't like it much better as a playing sport.

We do have other football codes to compete with for sure.

Look at the non-soccer countries with a clear predominant code, much the same situation as us.

Highest rank is the US @ 25, over 15 times our population so to be expected.  Plus Soccer would likely be a clear #2 code there, Rugby Union is played but nowhere near as prominent.

We're next @ 36.

South Africa @ 74, NZ is 120.

I could be wrong but I'm fairly sure Soccer is the #1 football type code in every other country in the top 100 at least.

It'd be the main summer sport in practically all the recognised cricketing countries.  Places like Canada... it's just a novelty.

:)

I have absolutely zero interest in buggering you but I'm not exactly surprised, the next generation of script kiddy trolls is on the rise...

Just what they expect to profit from around folks like us, nothing, but they still try. I get a few most weeks, usually I laugh and delete, sometimes I retaliate :)

Cheers
