Sorry, I saw them but I've been ultra busy lately.

You missed one : P

Didn't see the RTMs because PAX weekend, but I did see the threads and I couldn't work out whether they were legit or a pattern to them if they weren't.

Yeah, I also wondered about how legit they were...

Still not sure if the whole thread should have been removed or just the offending linked posts.  Any ideas anyone?

The whole threads should go.  They're blatantly obvious userids that all have 1 post each only, both OP and "best answer" reply that occurs anywhere from a few hours to days/weeks later.

The earlier ones also seemed to use a different font.

I'm not 100% but every userid involved looked to have one post only.  Once we were onto them they appeared to try to humanize them more.  They stopped changing font and gave the new users avatars.

Well, I banned every user that posted link spam, but I was in two minds about banning the OPs as well.

The only reason to keep the threads is for future searches, as some people did take the trouble to provide some assistance.  Dunno, it's getting more and more sophisticated these days.

I usually ban and remove the threads before the accomplice gets a chance to reply. Sometimes I'll leave it for a while if someone has replied and people are having fun with it.

The problem with that approach is that you could be banning a genuine noob who just needs a bit of help. It's hard to tell, and getting it wrong is worse than cleaning up a bit of post spam. So at least leaving it until someone link spams it would seem sensible.

Just quietly, there's a reference to the PCTA November 2016 issue out on the PCTA web site - or the 2015 masquerading as 2016 issue.

I think that was a typo on the PCTA site

I don't see any RTMs from you or anyone else.

I just ignore 'em and move on.  I save my RTMs for repeat offenders.

RTM is that "report to Moderator" ?

Should we do that on these type of posts now.

Yeah, codecreeper.  We DO actually look at RTMs and action those we think need it. :)

If you see something you think is dodgy and we don't know about it, a quick RTM can help.

We are looking at the one post wonders, and editing out any "helpful" links.  Spam has dropped off since we started doing that and it seems to be working.  So we are aware, but it's easy to miss a thread or two.

I view the forums using the 'view new content' method. So I see - if I'm at home/online/awake/have the spare time - pretty much all new activity on the forum. I don't read it all if it doesn't look interesting, but I see a lot across the entire forum.

Even still, RTM stuff, especially if it's been there for more than a few hours.
