So what is everyone's thoughts on the new iPhone 6 and 6 Plus? I think I will be pre-ordering a 6 Plus today to hopefully get it next Friday. http://www.apple.com/au/iphone-6/

I'm undecided at the moment.  New iPhone designs almost always take a while to grow on me, and I want to be able to make a comparison in the flesh before committing to a purchase.  If the 6+ feels good in the hand, that's the way I'll be leaning.

Yeah I thought about the + or the normal one for quite a while.  A mate of mine had a Galaxy Note 2 which is the same screen size so at least I had something to hold to get an idea of what that size screen would feel like.

I am likely going with the 6. The plus is too big for me personally having handled similar sized Android phones. I realise the plus will be a little different but I liked the 4" iPhone 5s and a nominal size upgrade would most likely suit me better.

I have the luxury of rolling a phone off a plan every year. One year it's mine, the next is my wife's so I'll be looking for the 6 at launch.

I'm going to have to pass again due to the fact that the specs don't really appeal to me.

Being a proud owner of an 4S since 2011, I never had the urge to upgrade to 5 or 5S.

I do respect Apple in a sense they make their hardware and software work so seamlessly together.

The 6+ makes getting another iphone tempting, but by the time I upgrade it'd be more likely to be a 6s+

I just hope that the plans are going to be good.  I want to stick to Telstra, but I don't think their pricing is going to be very good.  Looks like Virgin Mobile will be the way to go.

If I were to go for one, it'd be the plain 6. For me personally it just seems to be the better size. Outside of my (hopefully) soon to be replaced 2nd hand iPhone 4, I've used a few different sized phones that my mates have. I found the OnePlus One a bit too big, whereas a Nexus 4 seemed good for me

That being said, forgot how expensive these were :-/

Heh, pre-orders have crashed the Telstra website.

I had a look at the Samsung S5 and Note 3 to get an idea of size.  Holy shit, the 6+ is going to be a massive phone.  I'd still like the handle it to get a feel for how usable the interface will be, but if I choose to upgrade, I think I'll go with the 6.

So the pre-orders actually crashed every Telco's website.  Telstra, Voda, Virgin and Optus were all screwed for a couple of hours which was pretty funny.  Although you'd think that after 7 years of iPhones in Aus, they'd preempt the increased amounts of traffic.

I ended up getting the normal iPhone 6 with Virgin as they had the best plan that I could see.  Telstra wanted something ridiculous like $95 a month.

I thought about it this year and just went and bought the phone outright. I'm sick of Telstras bullshit and even though over 2 years it would have worked out $200 cheaper had I stuck with my plan with Telstra, I'll be able to look at other carriers now.

Went with the iPhone 6 in the end.

For shits and giggles I had a look at how much of a rebate Verizon would give me if I handed in my old iphones in exchange for a pre-order on a 6/6+. It looked reasonably tempting, considering I'd likely be moving to Verizon in 9 months anyway, but not tempting enough.

Was interested in the 6 Plus on Telstra, as I'm looking to replace my first gen Nexus 7 tablet, and wouldn't mind having one device to act as phone and tablet. But the 6 Plus is a bit out of my price range. The 16GB Plus would be $82 on the lowest plan (paying $70 a month currently), and given I've filled both my 32GB tablet and phone, it would be useless. But somehow the 128GB model on the same plan would be $91. I'll wait and see what the Note 4 costs, or see what HTC are announcing in October.

On and off for the last year or so. Moving there (hopefully) mid next year.

Reviews are out, and could be summed up as subtle improvements, with bigger screens, and great cameras.  If you were expecting something revolutionary, this isn't it.  It was mostly Apple playing catch up.  However, they're still some of the best phones available, and the additions to iOS 8 are very welcome improvements in terms of customisation.

I'm a bit sad that there won't be a review from Anand Lal Shimpi this time round, but my next favourite reviewer, David Pearce, does a pretty balanced job of on the iPhone 6 here:

I'm flip-flopping again on whether to go with the 6 or the 6+.  I have this idea that I want my next phone to last another 3-4 years, and I'm trying to predict how things will change.  Nilay Patel claims that the 6+ replaced his iPad Mini completely, and I like the idea of reducing the number of devices I own (and my original Nexus 7 is starting to struggle).  The future seems to suggest that smart watches will take over glance-able information, and phones will be used for more productive tasks.

Where this reasoning seems to break down is in determining how the culture will embrace these new trends.  Will voice, video, or dictated messages become the norm, replacing traditional typed messages?  Is there ever going to be something more productive than email that I'm likely to want to do on my phone?  Is a device with more browsing space actually going to be counter productive, enabling distraction that was unsatisfactory on my iPhone 4?  How big will phones get before we find the sweet spot that optimises screen to hand ratio?

This is amazing. iPhone 6 & 6+ camera test in Iceland.

http://www.theverge....ra-test-iceland

I'm going to be in Iceland in 4 weeks time. Still bringing my DSLR and all the bits and bobs though.

This is also interesting for a real world perspective on the two models. Both models tested in Disneyland

I received my iPhone 6 this morning. Still waiting for the sync to finish.

Bigger screen feels weird right now. Can't wait to take it out and give it a good test though.

Just called Virgin and they haven't even despatched my phone yet...

So much fail.  What's the point of pre-ordering if you can't get it on the day...
