Ahem.

On a different tack... Everyone's heard how strong spider silk is, right?  Well, yes - but it's very, very much more complex than you might have thought:

no electron microscope images though, or discussion of how the molecular arrangements of proteins translate to specific physical properties of webs — which is what i was hoping for

no pung intended

From Netflix - The Toys that made us.

First episode covers the Star Wars licenced toys by Kenner (later Hasbro) with some coverage relating to the Lego and the unauthorized knockoffs.

Not a bad show, interesting how the initial deal saw 20th Century and Lucasfilm getting 2.5% each of retail sales and turning Kenner into a big player, then with the prequels the deal was renegotiated to 18% royalty for Lucas but thanks to Episode 1 at least being somewhat a turd the toy sales went south and the cashcow dried up somewhat.

What the Health

Well, the first third of it anyway.

Starts innocently enough but quickly descends into a tirade against animal meat and animal food products in general.  Makes such outrageous claims as equating a single egg to 5 cigarettes and describes not only processed meat but meat in general as carcinogenic to similar risk proportions as asbestos and cigarettes.

Paused it and looked at some reviews (Google search).  Most prominent of the several I read was the Vegan dietitian who discredits it as using cherry-picked research and generally comes to the same negative conclusion as the rest (and mine).  https://www.vegan.co...hat-the-health/

A crowdfunded procuction, I suppose many of the people who donated support the not so hidden agenda, so won't exactly be complaining.  Produced by the same outfit who made Cowspiracy (another controversial film which is supposedly full of dubious claims).

Been meaning to watch that.

Also, heard nothing here of the latest Star Wars.  Reviews I've read have been a mixed bag but probably less than favourable overall.

Rating 7.6 on IMDB which puts it somewhat down the overall ranks.

Finally got around to seeing Arrival the other night, and followed it up with Passengers.

I would have enjoyed Arrival more if I had been able to hear anything people said.  Helicopters, explosions, jets going past: no problem; speech: mm-mpfmMMphfmwrbl!

Ah I have had that trouble in the past when using the PC to watch videos.

Basically it was down to the player having the wrong audio output mode set. IE having 5.1 (I have 5.1 speakers) set when the vid file only had stereo encoding on the audio track.

I'll bear that in mind for the next muddy audio movie I watch on PC, thanks.

This, however, was the dedicated BR player on the TV! It's not just like they put their radio mikes inside their ski jackets, either; it's holding important dialog in whispers whilst the "background" music swells.

These are soundtracks made for full cinema sound systems, played at ear-damaging sound levels. If my ears are ringing for any other reason than a nearby explosion, Mr Hollywood Soundguy is doing it wrong.

Hmm... Anyone wanna join me in a class action vs Hollywood and Hoyts et al for damages re permanent hearing loss? ;p

Part of the horrible time spent on my last few visits to the cinema was the sound level for whatever movie it was. I reckon there's a basic hearing problem suffered by those whose job it is to sort the audio. I'm bloody certain it's not just me ;)

Even here at home renting them and then watching via the tv screen  the sound seems never properly proportioned out. Of course when it rains here we just enable the text and give up trying to get the full impact of visual and audio working in sinc.

Another series on YT while waiting for Project Binky's next episode.

The Street Machine channel has some OK videos.  One ongoing series worth a look is Carnage.  Builds include an old Falcon taxi being built as a drag car, an MX-5 with LS1 transplant and an early 70s Dodge Dart.

I just finished watching The Sinner on Netflix. I enjoyed it.

I saw this post by you, then a week later I was chatting with another person in RL who also said it was worth it. I've just finished ep. 3 now. Not sure that "enjoy" is my experience so far. The pace is just shy of agonisingly tedious ;) but I can see why it should be so.

I'm intrigued at this point and that will keep me watching
