Intel h97 raid1 halves drive performance

apparently this is common to intel chipsets other than perhaps the 2011 sockets

This is with windows software raid for which i had to upgrade to win7 pro

Its currently idling at 27.13-28.5w with two hdd unplugged
With both hdd plugged in idle is 42.5w idle with hdd asleep is 31w
max spike so far has been 97.1w
Standby=0.85w without hdd 2.66w with them
off=0.5w
off at psu=0.04w

guess we find out when he gets it tomorrow

gran has had a 2600k for a few years now so its time he got with the times and upgraded from his $200 core 2 dell system which i think the ocz ssd i put in may have died

 

i was originally talking about getting him a nuc but decided on a option with better storage capability

must say i was rather surprised at the size of the case its huge

Its still a worthwhile sacrifice for a data drive and some redundancy :)

 

I wonder if a 'software raid' card would fix that? like one fo those $5  2 port SATA cards.
