Were excited to announce that CoreCLR is now open source on GitHub. CoreCLR is the .NET execution engine in .NET Core, performing functions such as garbage collection and compilation to machine code.

How exciting!

Now we can get good cross-platform .NET development happening. My C# skills may pay off yet!

Your C# skills should have been paying off long ago :p

So much of .NET is being open-source and has been open sourced in recent years.  Roslyn though is a big step forward. https://github.com/dotnet/roslyn

Xamarin also offers a decent cross-platform experience: maybe a more important cross platform than windows and linux based machines.
