Pricing is the key, if they overpriced it you're not going to get switchers aa you need a new motherboard as well

Intel have had 4 socket changes in 7 years for their mainstream desktop CPUs.  It's just about to the point where people are used to getting shafted in that regard.

I DL'd their Blender benchmark, started it and endured 50 seconds of fairly yawnworthy drawing then walked away for a minute only to return to a crashed application.

It would appear as if AMD has seemingly (and not purposely) given us some lights as to when their hotly anticipated Ryzen chips will hit the wild - and some of our wallets. While they haven't specifically given an exact date, the talk to be given by AMD at the annual Game Developer Conference (GDC) reads: "Join AMD Game Engineering team members for an introduction to the recently-launched AMD Ryzen CPU followed by advanced optimization topics". The "recently-launched tidbit is the most important, since it places Ryzen's launch necessarily before the end of GDC - which will happen between February 27th and March 3rd. AMD has, in the meantime, altered the original headline by cutting the "recently launched" tidbit altogether.

So, desktop CPUs next month and server CPUs sometime Q2.

Here's hoping they stick to it and that some decent mid-high end gear is included in the desktop types.

this is with a undetected turbo speed so it may or may not be working beyond 3.4GHz

its also done on a cheap mb A320M Pro-VD with with some rather slow ram 2400c17

Just read ryzen might not support windows 7 so you might be forced to use windows 10. You can use windows 8 with kaby lake cpus btw.

If they have any intentions of success, they should be trying to backdate driver support as much as possible.  No reason not to at least go as far back as Win 8, to expect everyone to start off the bat with 10 is a bit rich, and would erode much of the economical advantage over existing Intel CPUs (assuming performance data is accurate).

As for the performance figures earlier - a bit of a mixed bag there, not entirely enlightening.
