Looks like the new fangled Skylake Intel CPUs are thinner than their haswell predecessors. Folks with them super 3rd party coolers are finding their CPUs are bending from the weight. Be careful with ya new Skylake CPUs!

Has anyone actually experienced this? feels like the whole iphone bending scenario where it only happened at times.

There's an old Pentium CPU sitting on my work desk, there's no way those can bend. Have noticed CPUS are shrinking dramatically.

Intel's mounting mechanisms leave some to be desired.  I had a problem with my LGA 1066 Xeon where the heatsink got disturbed a bit and I got a Dimm slot error.  Turns out you can inadvertantly put the socket pins out of place if the CPU is pushed down too much in one area.  Luckily just pulling the CPU and heatsink off and replacing them was enough to fix it.

Aside from that the official Intel docs only specify the need for the land grid to withstand 30 processor insert/remove cycles which is kinda lame but I guess in most cases you'd never do that many.

So long as mine keeps working, I'm not pulling the cooler off it to see if it's bent.

I guess most with stock cooling shouldn't face this issue but intel should already know people would use huge coolers like enthusiasts.
