OK, sorry for making Another phone-related thread. This should be the last...

Which would you choose:

http://www.sony.com....5/sku/e6653au_n

or

https://www.jbhifi.c...et-grey/954310/

?

Same price (for now). I like them both. Last two phones have been HTC Legend and HTC One XL, but the Sony is tempting.

Which floats your boat more?

I say flip a coin.

They're flat pieces of glass and steel you'll install things on, and use those things.

Phones are all much of a muchness these days. unless you try to use them as a Nintendo or a TV I guess....

I'd buy based on battery life.

I don't much like that Sony doesn't round the corners much.  Plus my experience with Sony is everything of theirs I've ever owned has either died or has something wrong with it.

HTC screen slightly bigger but phone .7mm thicker.  Sony supposedly better battery life.  HTC 8 core CPU.  Both 1920x1080, both 32 Gig/3 Gig storage/Ram.

For me the HTC looks better, Sony doesn't seem to put much effort into exterior design.

Note of course specs can vary depending on region or sub-model.

Thanks for replies so far.

I have been poring over those specs too much recently, Rybags- but thanks! :)

HTC in the lead, I'm just curious for opinions on the Sony that might sway me

Edit: because that's a pretty good price on the Sony!

Yes, all recent Sony phones just look the same!

Sony can use PS3\4 controllers out of the box :P

Yeah, Sony don't go for much in the way of radical design, to put it mildly! I actually don't mind the look, in some ways.

As for controllers...no PS 3 or 4 here :)

What gets more frequent OS updates?
Is there a difference in water proofing?

Don't know. But HTC comes with Marshmallow; Sony Lollipop- upgradeable. I asked a Sony guy at a kiosk the other day and he said it would come with Marshmallow...he thinks...

I think only the Sony has any waterproofing...which isn't a deal breaker for me...until I drop it in the loo, I guess!!!

The coin is getting more attractive again :(

What websites do people use for reviews of phones...? Specifically the HTC. There are plenty of easily found Sony ones...

...might help?!

It's unclear but it appears the Sony has USB host and TV-out capability.

If the HTC doesn't, that might sway the deal for me.  Both have NFC though supposedly with HTC it's market dependant.

Both not exactly small phones, I would find HTC's 5.5" preferable to the Sony's 5.2", HTC also higher screen to phone size ratio.

I wouldn't want either phone in white... actually I wouldn't like practically any electronic device in white.

Yeah, no white for me, either! Plus the Sony is only at $699 in the gold (which I would immediately cover in a case...for both colour and to cover the glass rear)

Size wise...HTC is probably a bit big for me, but not excessively. 'Ideal' would something in between the two...

Not much choice with phone screen sizes, either 5.0, 5.2, 5.5 or 6.0 unless you want to go iPhone 5SE territory for a smaller phone.

It's not that you can drop the phone in the toilet/a bucket of water and it's fine. It's that you can not panic if you're caught out in the rain and the phone is in your pocket. Or it's excessively humid. Or a drink is spilled near/on it.

There is water resistant and full water proof.

Samsung S7 is kinda between water resistant and water proof.

Yeah, the toilet thing was just an example used in reviews. I'm not too concerned about water resistant/proof to be honest. The Sony has the edge there, but I've never had a need for waterproofing in all my years of owning a phone (touch wood!)

The Compact Z5 was tempting at first for that reason...but it is too small

Wow, I'm so used to older Samsungs, then the last few years, blackberries. And my best mate has a Sony.

I thought those were the norm now?

If not, yeah, I vote SONY, I'd be lost without my USB HOST

I don't think it is a huge issue for me...
