At start up i am now getting 3 short beeps ,according to the chart this indicates Main memory read / write test error ,does this mean my ram is on its way out,it does it 3 times then boots fine

You run any memory testing tools?

Run mdsched from Windows - it's a built in Windows memory testing tool (unless you're running something else).

One page I found mentions base 64K test failure.  You could try swapping the Dimm positions but it'd probably make no difference since multi-channel Ram configs interleave addresses.

I'd bet your motherboard battery is flat (the little CR button cell).

I bet it's forgotten it's ram timings, and trying 3 defaults before it finds the one that boots :)

Just an educated guess.

Whack a multimeter on the battery.

Most likely a CR???? battery but you'll need to read the cr number. Most common is the cr2032.

Have you entered the correct RAM settings for your sticks, then saved the BIOS?

It's not magically going to correct itself :P

Jump into Nich's thread, and start following the same advice.

It seems we have two memory related issues going on at once

sounding like a mb problem to me if each stick on its own is ok

bit more serous than Nich's problem so extra v and tweaked settings probably wont be enough to fix it but then it should be quicker to diagnose since you dont have to run hours of tests just to duplicate the error

tried the other slots?

reset the bios and drop the ram speed to 1333 if it isnt already

may be worth removing everything from it reseating the cpu and running it on a box of the igp with a spare psu if possible just to be sure its not a usb device or something weird
