noooooooo..........!!!

i just read that and i'm really sad

steely dan is one of my favourite groups (well, a duo and lots of session musos really), and becker's lyrics along with fagan's music are every bit as revolutionary as lenon and mccartney were a decade previously

ah fuck !  that one's a bit close to home and he wasn't very old, but i bet he'd lived a "full" life if the songs are any reflection

rock and roll heaven just got significantly more literate

:(

this is his solo work, showing where the lyrics of the dan originate

Me too. Quite sad.

Another smart dude who survived 'broken ' beginnings. My go to station in the car did some Steely Dan first thing this morn, and then again when I made a trip out during the day.

Good to know even the boonies know good music.

i confess i have all their albums, and the only song i can't abide is "black friday"  - maybe because they don't pronounce muswellbrook anywhere close to locals

but i can probably sing every song from their first tranche of albums off by heart, up to and including gaucho

the only other lyricist that comes close consistently is joni mitchell, but she lacks the wicked humour that makes becker spartkle

their production values are up there with pink floyd for obsesssive attention to detail

ah fuck !  i'm still really sad  :(

Only 73... he was a good presenter, too bad he didn't do much high profile stuff in the later years.

I had to see his face to recall the name. As a kid we'd have to sit and watch This Day Tonight. Wow. Major Kudos to him.

R.I.P Mr Luck and thanks for giving me tv that obviously impressed me enough that I recall you easily to mind.

Connie Johnson has finally succumbed to the cancer. There are lots around her who will mourn her for the rest of their lives, her brother has been manically focused in the drive to collect money for continued research etc. It can't have been easy at all for her young family to share their mother's very public and drawn out dying. Oh my but they have a hard road ahead. My condolences to them all.

Considering the lifestyle of rockers of that era, I'm surprised he made it this far.

RIP... a legend and too young.  I've got a few of his songs that get a regular play.  Apparently recently finished a 40th anniversary tour with The Heartbreakers.

I guess this time he actually did back down.

... and yet Mick Jagger still lives :P Rest in Peace Mr Tom Petty . You are missed already.

I'm glad all those guys did what they did back then. We would have been truly braindead had they not had a go
