:)

CVs are a pain in the butt, but maybe they are better now, I went through a period where several mates had Minis, it was about a once a month chore spread across them :)

Any excuse for a few beers will do :)

Cheers

CV joints... eesh.

Ah they're a cakewalk.

Messy, but, simple.

1. Car on hoist

2. Remove lower ball joint

3. Remove wishbone lower bolt.

4. pull on wheel\pry on join to pop the shaft out of the gearbox.

5. replace CV (messy but fun!)

6. Reverse :)

Arguably easier if I just buy a whole new shaft, but..... then I have to hope like hell I can get the hub nut loose.

And I'm not a gambling man :P

I also have 2 inner CV's to change on it. I'll do that this weekend.

CVs? Aren't the inner ones just standard Universal joints like

https://images11.pal...087/8087165.jpg

With CVs only at the wheel hub?

They'd likely be (inner) uni's if coming from a transfer case to front diff in a 4WD longitudinal setup.

The problem with uni joints is that they need to be used in pairs with complementary angles so that velocity output from the second one corrects the variation introduced by the first.

So really you only see uni's on independant rear axle/drive shafts (and the usual assortment longitudinally).

Cefiros are great, float like a maxima, sting like a skyline.

I miss mine sometimes.

I do suggest you seriously look in to something LS powered though, they're cheap these days and anything the Barra can do, the LS can do better. The only real reason it's taken so long for me to get another one is that I want a manual in a car that isn't red or black.

I found something for ya :P

Hey, it's grampa's Cressida!

Until the  "Hks Trust Gtrs turbo" (Which means at least a GT30) kicks in.

Then grandpa has a heart attack.

Which, however, is funny as hell (the turbo not dead grandpas) Because HKS and TRUST are competing brands.

A tad better looking than the old 80s 4dr Skylines though I'd hope they don't have the same woeful quality interior trim quality.

Engine/running gear aside, I imagine those things are about the price of a Pintara in Japan on the used market in standard form.  The attraction of such grey imports is that they're a rarity.  Otherwise they look like a retired pimp's ride.

Do you follow MightyCarMods at all?

They just put a near stock Barra-T into a Cresta; made 600HP ATW and ran 9's

In other news, after arguing with them all day;

"It's already at the auction yard, It's not our property anymore"

"Well you'd better win it back at auction, because I told you from day1 I'm paying salvage, so you've stolen my car"

"We paid you in full, It's out of our control"

"I didn't authorise the payment, nor agree to it, check the recordings, See you in court"

"We'll get a manager"

"OH it's AT auction, but NOT sold yet, but it's in their yard, go inspect it"

"OK salvage for $300"

I got whats left of my car back.

For $300, a Honda Kseries is worth it; even the shitty A3 version.

Not to mention a mint condition gearbox.

My good speakers.

Swaybars.

Headlights are worth a lot from those models.

Tail lights about the same.

About $500+ of Evo9 rims (hopefully they didn't bend or rash too bad)

etc etc.

Pretty sure the K series box, engine, loom and  ECU are going into an EG shell I might be able to get for free........

Lights and swaybars and interior will sell off to cover that $350.

I'm going to try and 'make them' (insurance) pay for the tow to my house too. I wasted 2.5 working hours on the phone with them today, after I was promised EFT, and sent a cheque.

And then promised salvage, and almost lost it.

I've been with them 15 years, and this is my first claim.

Hopefully they accept my request to cover the tow as an apology for the stress and fuck around.

Shame thats an auto, it's in amazing condition.

4G63T or even a hot G54 would be a lot of fun.

My mate has 3 or 4 of them.

One has a 4G63-T dropping in it soon.

They're buckets of shit, but in typical 'mitsubishi' style, only the unimportant bits fail.

Driveline? Flawless.

Everything else? requires the Fonzie Touch.

30 years later, and nothing changed. The "BitsAreMissing" brand still maintains it's reputation. Cheap plastics, dodgy 'accessories', flawless driveline.

Also, That's way too much money.

We pick them up in QLD in runnin condition for about $600.

EDIT:

Also, just got back from the Auctions inspecting my car, the towies have rashed the spokes a little, but nothing that some putty and sanding wont fix.

There's plenty to sell from the old shell, so it's worth the Salvage.

EG shell, and Kswap in my future I think.

I knew an NRMA emergency technician back in the day... in the 5 years either side of 1990 Sigma and Magna had the worst reputation of any cars.

The driveline is the weak link, engines or gearboxes would spontaneously die, regardless of how the car had been treated.

But if one's made it to the modern day in reasonable order then chances are it'll continue service just as well as any other of the era.
