How about folding some metal flyscreen?

Unsure how well that would work - In close proximity lots of holes work together to be less effective, but I expect it would still be better than nothing.






EDIT: and would I be best to connect said flyscreen to the antenna GROUND, to act as a faraday cage for the chip?


Points where the current shield is soldered/attached to the board should be grounded - likely there is a ground plane in the PCB that is forming the other side of any shield.

whatever you do stick a temp probe on the back of the pcb for some b4 and after temps

speaking of flyscreen, i wonder if you could just replace the whole shield with something like this:
