#1179855 Board Games thread

Posted by Chaos.Lady on 31 July 2016 - 01:17 PM

Ticket to Ride is great fun.  I've played it with 3 players and it's not a perfect number, but it plays just fine.

For my money, the best 3 player games are 7 Wonders and Smallword.  Although again, for my money, for 3 players you are better off going the Co-op route (assuming 3 relatively strong players so you don't end up with a quarterback and no other players).

Mage Knight, Legendary Encounters, Forbidden Desert/Island are all awesome for 3 players.

I've got the Scandinavian version of Ticket to Ride very high on my wishlist. :)

#1176467 Should I drop my Psychology Degree?

Posted by Chaos.Lady on 04 June 2016 - 01:40 PM

I came within a gnat's whisker of chucking in my degree a week before my final semester started.  The only reason I didn't was because I friend literally pulled the plug on the computer and then got me drunk.  By the time I sobered up and finished sobbing, I realized how dumb I was being.

It was the toughest semester I ever did, but I got through it with a degree.  Sometimes you just have to tell yourself to balls up and just get it done.

*sigh*. At least Director understands me.

Apparently our minds are both at the same level of diseased. :)

It didn't do well (UK came third last). but the song is certainly better than other years.

It's so great to hear that you guys are doing okay again.

I'll unpin this now since it seems to have well and truly fulfilled its purpose.

As usual, atomic shows the love when someone is in need.

#1175141 Australia comes 2nd in Eurovision

Posted by Chaos.Lady on 16 May 2016 - 02:32 PM

Ukraine won over favourites Russia (who came 3rd).

Okay, so I'll admit I'm a Eurovision junkie.  I watch it every year for the hilarity and politics.  And the drinking.  SOOOOO MUCHHH drinking! :)

Anyway, this year Australia was entered and actually had the best song IMHO.  The song that won.... well it frankly sucked.  The Russian song was actually really really good and probably should have taken the night (other than us :P).

But euro-politics is a funny game and Europe is very, very pissed at the mighty Russia.  And this was reflected in the judges voting.

Anyone else watch?

For the interested: Australia's entry

Lost SEVENTY EIGHT kilograms?
Jesus H Christ in a chicken basket. That's really impressive.
Nice work.
You must feel like a different person.

Lol. Yep. Seventy Eight. I'm still on my way to the last 15kgs I need to lose.

And yep, I'm able to do much more. I'm weight training with a PT to build my strength and muscle, learning free weights as well as the machines. Bushwalking and dance classes are also fun. I've also reversed my diabetes, and lessened the symptoms of my other autoimmune conditions. Which are mainly why I had to lose the weight in the first place. I went from a size 24 to a size 12.

It's awesome.

Sold my business
Got a degree in IT
Moved back to Sydney
Worked 4 jobs
Spent a fair bit of time unemployed
Lost 78kgs
Discovered a relationship with my previously estranged sister who is now my best friend
Got a new awesome job as an Incident Manager in a large IT company
Watched my baby grow up (he's gonna be 18 in a few months)
Went back to work on a Masters. Currently in the process of changing educational direction again
Started writing a novel
Started working as Cover Disk Editor for PCPP in my spare time
Discovered a passion for European Board Games

Not much happened really.

#1174363 OK, so WTF is going on with Atomic?

Posted by Chaos.Lady on 11 May 2016 - 05:35 AM

It's funny, but I think the forums are valuable BECAUSE they aren't facebook.

Is it healthy to have a world where only people you like, who share the same opinions and values are allowed?  Isn't that the start of an echo chamber?  Isn't that kind of insular existence exactly what many people claim to be the issue with certain religions and ways of life?

Yeah, facebook is easy.  Twitter is easy.  But they aren't always HEALTHY.

This place allows you - forces you - to interact with the world in all its shapes, colors and irritations.  It FORCES you to think about what you are posting and the impact of it.  It FORCES you to have an opinion about your breakfast formulated before you show us your vegemite toast.

I can't possibly see that as a bad thing. :)
