"The West Australian Government is in talks with the Commonwealth to take traffic fine payments out of welfare cheques in a bid to reduce the Indigenous incarceration rate.
In some remote areas, almost half of Indigenous inmates are behind bars for unpaid traffic fines.
WA Attorney-General John Quigley said he had been discussing the idea with Federal Social Services Minister Christian Porter.
"[It would be] a modest amount, that wouldn't … deprive them of their sustenance to life and accommodation," Mr Quigley said.
"But it would mean that they wouldn't fall behind and be in arrears to the point where they've got to be imprisoned."
Oh my !
Not paying traffic fines puts them in jail. And now to keep the " Indigenous" out of jail the WA Gov think it might be good to dock their welfare cheques. :\
Why not instead of jailing or docking the money that feeds them and possible family, get them to do community services to work off the fine.
