I don't think I could trust OCZ with my data. This. Heard so many complaints about them, they might even have a higher failure rate than HDD's..... -------------------- not working is hard work

I always see them for a few dollars more than they have GBs. Could be that this specific drive is just the lowest end and not on offer at a lot of places. Not looked at scorptech for ages and I rarely use MSY site as it's a bit horrible. -------------------- Reality is just an illusion brought on by a lack of alcohol.

Even reasonably high end drives are getting cheap. Seriously tempted to get a Sandisk 480 gig now they're down to about $440

I don't think I could trust OCZ with my data. This. Heard so many complaints about them, they might even have a higher failure rate than HDD's..... I'm fairly sure they do have a higher failure rate than HDDs. I have had 2 different versions of the Vertex. 60GB Vertex and the 256GB Vertex 4. So far, they havent given me any problems at all. Well, except that one time when I was reinstalling Windows and I thought I might as well update the firmware. However, a post on the site and I had tech support taking me through the steps required to fix the problem. -------------------- Intel Core i7 3930K, Gigabyte x79-UD5, 16GB Corsair Vengence RAM, EVGA 670GTX, 256GB OCZ Vertex 4 SSD, 3 x 1TB Hitachi HDD, LG BD-DVD Optical Drive, Corsair TX 750 PSU, CoolerMaster Hyper 412s HSF, CoolerMaster Cosmos II Tower.

So far, they havent given me any problems at all. Well, except that one time when I was reinstalling Windows and I thought I might as well update the firmware. However, a post on the site and I had tech support taking me through the steps required to fix the problem. Same here. My Agility3 has been flawless since it was installed. But I suppose there has to be a few good stories among all the bad. Thought about updating the firmware to 2.22, but might hold it off a little longer. Some people seem to have had some issues with it. But for anyone looking at an SSD, I think these would be great so long as you're not looking for something at the pointy end of the speed scale. Interesting link. Although they are all old models. I doubt the new (3/4) ones would be that bad. This post has been edited by rs727: Aug 4 2012, 04:15 PM |

I wouldn't care how cheap they are; With a >10% chance of failing I'd avoid the Octane's like the plague.
If you want a cheap SSD with a respectable failure rate (<%3) I'd start here: http://www.shoppingexpress.com.au/view/Massive_SSD_Sale -------------------- Main rig - CPU: Core-i7 3820 / Mobo: MSI X79A-GD45 (8D) / RAM: Patriot Viper Xtreme Div.2 PXD38G1866ELK 8G Kit(4GBx2) DDR3 1866 / GPU: Powercolor HD7970 / Storage: Sandisk Extreme 240GB SSD / Audio: Audio Engine D1 DAC + 5+ stereo speakers / Case: Coolermaster Storm Scout / Monitor: Viewsonic VX2268wm
