How do these rate? Say compared to the vertex series.

I don't think I could trust OCZ with my data.

This.
Heard so many complaints about them, they might even have a higher failure rate than HDD's.....

I'm fairly sure they do have a higher failure rate than HDDs.

Ah I didn't realise the low end drives were getting so cheap. I always see them for a few dollars more than they have GBs. Could be that this specific drive is just the lowest end and not on offer at a lot of places.
Not looked at scorptech for ages and I rarely use MSY site as it's a bit horrible.

Even reasonably high end drives are getting cheap. Seriously tempted to get a Sandisk 480 gig now they're down to about $440

I have had 2 different versions of the Vertex. 60GB Vertex and the 256GB Vertex 4. So far, they havent given me any problems at all. Well, except that one time when I was reinstalling Windows and I thought I might as well update the firmware. However, a post on the site and I had tech support taking me through the steps required to fix the problem.

Same here. My Agility3 has been flawless since it was installed. But I suppose there has to be a few good stories among all the bad.

Thought about updating the firmware to 2.22, but might hold it off a little longer. Some people seem to have had some issues with it.

But for anyone looking at an SSD, I think these would be great so long as you're not looking for something at the pointy end of the speed scale.

Interesting link. Although they are all old models. I doubt the new (3/4) ones would be that bad.

I wouldn't care how cheap they are; With a >10% chance of failing I'd avoid the Octane's like the plague.

If you want a cheap SSD with a respectable failure rate (<%3) I'd start here:
