On topic though... sorta. When I was 25 my sister was 20, she was dating this dude. He hit her. She came home with a black eye. My old man saw it. I had some friends over at the time, we had to physically overpower him, take away his gun, his keys and lock him in the basement for 2 days while the boyfriend left town for an extended time. My father was prepared to go to jail. He didn't really care. I have no doubt that if we had not restrained him, he would have shot that guy. And not given two shits about the the consequences. Just like I seriously doubt that even if the father in this story was convicted that he would take back his actions. I know I wouldn't in his shoes.
