Mrs. Z has been making and selling some craft items online lately, and doing reasonably well. (Which reminds me, I should update my other thread...)

Now she's come up with an idea that would require the use of images of famous people: Marilyn Munroe, James Dean, Lucille Ball, Charlie Chaplin, et al. I know that most (or all) of these people have their likenesses under the control of an estate and it would require licencing of said likenesses before she could use them, but where does a person do that? Anyone here done anything similar? Where did you go to get the licence?

I love torrenting MAME and Pinball emulators. One day I may even use the software.

My band did a cover that we released on our EP (the classic Summertime). We approached one of the licensing groups to purchase a license. Costs us an amount per copy sold.

I'd say there is a similar group who will handle the copyright of images (likenesses) for the various estates and you will have to either pay a flat fee, or a percentage/fixed amount per sale.
