Nvidia Kepler Rumors Options

HD 7970 has a higher yield than the GTX 680 :P, so it is Nvidia with 680/690 stock issues.

AMD will take longer as their GPU is a little hotter than Nvidia. I assume they wanted to adapt a similar strategy to NV too, finding the best GPU sorting methods and reserving those for the dual-GPU cards.

I spoke with an AMD rep yesterday actually, but he wouldn't give me much more than "we're working on it" kind of response.

looks like gtx690 has claimed highest performance per watt and is no louder than gtx680 but costs the same amount as two gtx680
still its a rather impressive piece of tech

I'd be surprised if it was faster than midway between HD7950 and the 7970.

The real question is price, we haven't been given an AU price yet for our review. I'm going to guess at... $549 (around the cost of the average 7970). Considering the 680 is $699 and up in most stores.

At this point in time, anyone who buys a GTX 680 for $699 while a 7970 is only $549, has got rocks in their head. The GTX 680 is so severely over priced in Australia, yet it is consistently sold out everywhere...

Supply and demand, unco. Most stores are probably holding only one or two GTX680s before it got sold. I'm not surprised about the absurd cost really.

Yer, that's undoubtedly a place holder price. They would have 1 card on hand, so are happy to sell it for $2k if anyone is willing to pay. The price will come down to $1299 when they get a few more cards.

The GTX 690 will be a very rare card in this country for the next 3 months.

even if i won tonight 70mil lotto i still wouldnt buy one of those cards for 1300 bucks. Id much rather put fuel in my 6.2L v8 and i know id get more fun outta it.

TSMC Gives NVIDIA Priority for 28 nm Manufacturing

Relations between NVIDIA and its principal foundry partner, TSMC, have been unpredictable in recent times, with reports of NVIDIA expressing displeasure with it over 28 nm manufacturing capacity, which is denting its competitiveness; and later crediting collaboration with it, for the energy-efficiency of its latest Kepler family of GPUs. With NVIDIA threatening to find other foundry partners for bulk manufacturing, and reports of Samsung already preparing qualification samples for it, TSMC is responding by issuing NVIDIA a priority over other clients (such as Qualcomm, AMD) for manufacturing of 28 nm chips.

While being unsatisfied with TSMC's output, and its new policy of charging for wafers rather than working chips yielded, NVIDIA refuted rumors of it seeking other foundry partners such as Samsung and Global Foundries. When put on high-priority, TSMC will facilitate speedy launch of new NVIDIA GeForce SKUs towards the end of Q2, 2012. Supply prioritization isn't new, TSMC has, in the past, prioritized Qualcomm when it threatened to shift allocations to other foundries. It remains to be seen how AMD responds to the situation, as such a prioritization would come at the expense of its volumes, and could threaten its competitiveness.

Very nice performance for this card. Serious contention to be my replacement card. All the performance of the 680 without a price tag.


Remember that the 680 is just tag for the relative performance of the card. They might release a 685 for more performance.

According to this BSN article it is half a 690 board. Some reports that it is missing a GPGPU due to the length of the card.

Galaxy apparently working on a single slot 600 series card.

I think the 670 series card look to have the most of the performance of the 680 without the price tag. The shorter pcb means that there will be less clutter in the case if you liquid cool your graphics.

You mean like the 570 was 90% of the performance of the 580 for 75% of the price. Yeah pretty much :)

You are mad if you buy anything other than a 7970 atm, if that is you could find a 680 to buy.

lol you would trust centrecom to be honest about stock levels? pay them the $1600 then get told its a 4month wait for the card probably.
