bla bla bla is all I hear from them. Haha :-D Some may say the same was done with Morrowind/Oblivion/Skyrim (and the Fallout games), but at least it looks better; you can see a massive improvement between all 3. CoD however, I fail to see how Call of Duty 2 is any worse looking than the new games haha. I think we all know why they can't be bothered changing it though... Might play some CoD 2 now :-P -------------------- "I still maintain Nobody813 is a bot" - noskcaj

LOL. While I disagree with the use of pictures (I reckon that 1st one is 1024x768, Bilinear, no AA, and probably DirectX 7 hahaha), I do think I exaggerated with my initial statement
What I should have said; All I really see the advancements being in any Call of Duty games these days, is just more glitter, and better artwork. Most of the differences in graphics are just the artists including better models, more detailed and "interesting" environments, and the fact that they're had previous experience working with the engine, so get slightly more out of it each time. A lot of what you see in any modern Call of Duty game is most probably capable of being done in any of the older Call of Duty "engines" after Call of Duty 2 I suppose, seeing as they're all based on the same tweaked id Tech 3 engine. We didn't see a lot of these newer features seen in newer CoD games back then as we didn't have hardware powerful enough to do it most of the time In all honesty, I thought Modern Warfare looked better than World at War; the main difference being the setting and art style, even if the engine had been updated and was more advanced :-P This post has been edited by nobody813: May 15 2012, 11:39 AM -------------------- "I still maintain Nobody813 is a bot" - noskcaj

Treyarch says Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 Doesn't Need a New Engine to Advance Graphics QUOTE Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 doesn't need a brand new game engine to improve the graphics over previous games in the series, Treyarch has insisted. Black Ops 2 is built using the latest, most advanced version of the engine that Call of Duty developers have used to build the first-person shooter series since 2005's Call of Duty 2: a heavily modified version of the id Tech 3 engine. Some fans have called on Activision to invest in a brand new graphics engine in order to spruce up Call of Duty's visuals. But Treyarch chief Mark Lamia said continuing to upgrade the current engine was enough to meet the development team's design goals. "People always ask me, 'Is this a new engine?' he told One of Swords. "I liken it to people who live in an older house that has been remodelled. Just because you're remodelling the house and it will look new or it will have a new kitchen, you don't tear out the foundation, or break out some of the framing. You might even go as hardcore as replacing the plumbing, and we will do that sort of thing, as an analogy. It's a gross simplification, but it's one way to say that. There's a lot of good still in that foundation that you wouldn't get rid of, and we don't. We look to advance in the areas that support our game design. "Engines, each time they get touched, they change. The creators alter them; they don't modify what they don't need to, and then they alter what they need to. You can't make a competitive product if you're not upgrading that engine along the way." He added: "I think the whole thing about a new engine... sometimes that's a great buzzword. Well, I have a new graphics engine - is that a new engine? Where does it start and stop? Elements of the code, you can trace back for a very, very long time... but whole parts of the code are entirely new. Two areas we did focus on for this game were the graphics and the lighting - a pretty significant amount of work is going into that."When Activision announced Black Ops 2 earlier this month it promised a "visual overhaul", with graphical upgrades a mix of "tech and technique". In a demo to press played on an Xbox 360 build of the game, an unpopulated level set on Socotra Island in Yemen showed HDR lighting, bounce lighting, self-shadowing and a new texture technique called reveal mapping - all running at 60 frames per second. "I think what people are asking for is for us to push," Lamia explained. "They want us to make a better-looking game; they want things. I don't think those are things people can't ask for. We asked ourselves that very same question - we wanted to advance the graphics. I think the questions are valid. The answer may not need to be an entirely new engine, but you might need to do an entire overhaul of your entire lighting system. "The trick is, we're not willing to do that if we can't keep it running at 60 frames per second - but we did that this time. So this is the Black Ops 2 engine." What an absolute load of rubbish, double speak and associated attempts to put a positive spin on a stinking pile of crap. Read between the lines though and the truth is clear. They will do nothing to the franchise if they cant get it to work at 60fps on a console. End of story. The COD environments are dead, lifeless, and linear when compared to what could be achieved. COD MW3 is now one of the few games that actually looks like a console game on my specced out PC. In 2012. Disgraceful. But you will see ZERO absolutely ZERO introduction of a new graphics engine (COD is still stuck at DX9 same as Skyrim FFS and so on and so on BECAUSE of CONSOLES despite us having DX 11 FFS) , new map design, new real physics integration, and so forth UNTIL the next generation of consoles come out. But even then there will be little change to actual GAME PLAY, because even our game play, level design and way we interact with the world is governed almost completely by consoles. Solutions people we need solutions. -------------------- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=znodcpMzcnA&feature=player_embedded |

IMO Treyarch's multiplayer tweaks (excluding some of the maps) were much more likeable by someone like me where you do require more skill involved since people take longer to die and etc. Infinity Ward always gets more development time than Treyarch from what I remember to an article I can't quite link to. (sorry)
Funny thing I noticed is that while IW uses their own updated engine of IW 4.0 and then into the 'MW3 Engine'. Treyarch still has to improve upon COD 4's engine of IW 3.0. It's like Infinity Ward just wants to be a dick in the competition against Treyarch and not give them anything no more. MW3...the claustrophobic maps and the guns are just so obsolete. Apparently my friend said hacking in it is a piece of cake and there's always aimbots going rampart. MW2 still had some pretty fond memories of me. Things were much less..... messy in it. (even though there was nube tubes and one man army thingies) This post has been edited by Mr.Twinkie: May 15 2012, 02:15 PM -------------------- "Ignorance is a luxury that you cannot afford"

Yeah, I agree Black Ops 2 really departed from the current story and gone futuristic. But I think that's the whole point of having the second iteration of this popular title. After all, anyone who enjoyed Black Ops would surely want to try this one. Can't wait to see the release of this game.

What a load of rubbish. Do you think they actually believe their own hype now? That whole developer 'video' is just one long 'sound byte' "pushing the boundaries", "player choices", "we are energised",
"important to feel . . . authentic", "we focused everything on telling a better story", "tell a more mature story" . . . yuck -------------------- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=znodcpMzcnA&feature=player_embedded |

It doesn't feel like Goyer and Reznor are saying what they really want to say... It feels like they're saying propoganda made by Actvision. However I do look forward to seeing how all their talent will be used in Black Ops 2. I am a big fan of them in the movie world. Black Ops multiplayer was the worst multiplayer in a CoD game since CoD 2. Mate, MW3. That is all. So I'm guessing they spent all the money they have left over from drugs and hoes on hiring some "big name" movie industry to help out when they should have spent it on an updated engine,,,
It might have been impressive if they had hired Christopher Nolan and Hans Zimmer, but I guess cocaine and prostitutes costed more than they bargained more. -------------------- You don't have to rely on other people if you never miss.
