Anyway, https://twitter.com/ID_AA_Carmack/status/209303684427956225
The SDK that was supposed to be at launch is supposedly, finally arriving after no real word on any updates and certainly none of the aforementioned DLCs... At launch an SDK would have done wonders for this game, cause as it was, it was buggy, it was ugly, and well, just not a very good game.. especially for PC. It looked and played like a game made by a committee or a "head office" board. But the engine obviously to any would be modder, had potential. It's interesting that it just suddenly sprang up after 9 months of no info and abandonment, I don't want to sound cynical but DayZ may well be the only reason. Yup, it was a real flop. Such massive installation and texture sizes, yet the interior was still low res. No DLC's no other news.
It seems that RAGE might live on as an engine, but certainly not a game. Long uninstalled from my PC. -------------------- www.atomicf1.net

It seems that RAGE might live on as an engine, but certainly not a game. Long uninstalled from my PC. Most likely, id have been building on the id tech engine for over a decade, they'll keep pushing out other games on it, there were quite a few on the last engine too, the mega textures or whatever the hell they called them were a good idea in theory, but using 4096x4096 textures across a large mapping space just makes them look bad, I can see some massive double or triple size packs coming along after the SDK drops though, might get it looking respectable... at 30gb :P Anyway, I just deleted Rage to get some space back on my steam drive the other day, 1TB drive dedicated to steam, 931gb useable, taken up down to the last gigabyte, something like 135 installed games, down to about 80~ now. Mostly not crap I play either, but games I think are worth keeping incase of nostalgia or mods. -------------------- My Rig: ASUS P67 Sabretooth | i5 2500k @ 4.6ghz w/ Corsair H80 | 8gb G.Skill Ripjaw-X 1866mhz | 2x7950 @ 1000mhz CrossfireX| NZXT Phantom | Corsair HX850

lol Rage
I remember all the hype back when it was announced and all the id fanbois salivering over it. What a joke that turned out to be. id is finished as a game developer imo. Their success peaked with Doom 3 and even that was lame compared to HL2. -------------------- You don't have to rely on other people if you never miss.

It had a shoddy implementation, but much of it was solid, such as the premise and the gunfighting, shooting people is great in rage and the AI in fights was fresh, much fun to be had.
The game as a whole was a disappointment, but not without it's highlights. -------------------- 2011 Atomic 3DMark & Game Benchmark Rankings !! http://forums.atomicmpc.com.au/index.php?showtopic=41178

I agree, the shooting was solid, at least before the end of the game. I loved going right into an arena battle with the Shotgun, loaded with explosive rounds. The characters were great too, as were the environments (particularly the subway city). The issue I had with Rage was that the cars were made out to be the centre of the show, and yet they felt like they were just background to the shooting sections. The vehicle mechanics were no better or worse than any FPS with the obligatory 'driving sections' (*cough*Half-Life 2*cough*). It certainly was not a vehicular combat game as I was hoping, it was just another linear FPS with some driving sections thrown in.
As for mods...it would depend how good the SDK were, and whether anyone could see any benefit in using it over, say...any other SDK. This post has been edited by Mademan: Jun 16 2012, 05:46 PM |
