I dunno if anyone will be able to see these, but if you have a FB account I believe these are public....some interesting photos from a friend of a friend in Afghanistan...showing images you don't usually see in the media. I find some of them quite touching...

You don't need an FB account at all.
You're quite right that those are not the usual media fare. As well as the touching shots (nurse whispering to a patient, for example), there are some which are just plain beautiful. Kudos to your mate's mate. -------------------- "If you want to build a ship, don't drum up the men to gather wood, divide the work and give orders. Nothing visible here. Cybes says you don't need a Facebook account to view. I know his pics are public, but I thought a fB account was still necessary. Weren't you using a different browser to FF or IE Rehatter? -------------------- Sometimes I think the surest sign that intelligent life exists elsewhere in the Universe is that none of it has tried to contact us...

This is what I see when I click on that link… shown also is the About dialogue for my web browser (Firefox 5.0… non mozilla.org build, which is why it comes up as "Aurora"):

Sorry to resurrect an old(er) post, but I feel compelled to share some more of these fantastic images from Michael Yon, an embedded wartime photographer. In this batch, the photos show a bit of a "day in the life of" helicopter rescue pilots in the Afghanistan warzone.
I believe he uses both a GoPro and also a military spec miniature chest camera for the pics that have the fisheye effect. I find everything about the photos striking...the clarity of the images, the uniqueness of the subject matter, and the broad application of the camera hardware in all sorts of situations. I really like this shot...I'd love a house like this...reminds me of Luke Skywalker's parents house in the desert on Tatooine.

That's a sky from an area with very few lights, it's very real.
A very nice image indeed. -------------------- Out of my mind, be back eventually.

That's a sky from an area with very few lights, it's very real. A very nice image indeed. Its a bit of a time exposure too, in the bottom left you can see the streak of a shooting star...but yeah, there is no light pollution there, apparently. I've seen similar skies in central Australia, the starlight is so bright you can almost read from it... I get a youtube vid I previously embedded when I click that new link. Paste the wrong link? Wierd...that link was working yesterday. Anyway, fixed. -------------------- Sometimes I think the surest sign that intelligent life exists elsewhere in the Universe is that none of it has tried to contact us...

More interesting photos from the Afghanistan war, this time a photo piece from theatlantic.com.
I have a bit of a fascination for images from war, its not that I support or enjoy war, rather I like to look at the human element and how war affects people and their environment. These pics are an example of one of the 2 styles of photography that I divide the artform into...Artistic, and Documentary. These being documentary. Here, the accurate depiction of the subject matter for reference and posterity is more important than the visual aesthetic, in the artistic sense, therefore... sometimes technical or compositional failings of the photo need to be overlooked in favour of the fact that an event was captured by camera, sometimes events that may never be repeated. Anyway, enjoy... http://www.theatlantic.com/infocus/2012/06...ay-2012/100310/ This post has been edited by Antraman: Jun 4 2012, 12:17 AM -------------------- Sometimes I think the surest sign that intelligent life exists elsewhere in the Universe is that none of it has tried to contact us...
