So is the Mobo ok now ? And yes any brand of that cleaner should be fine. As for PSU I would use the following for that build.
Antec VP-450P PSU Our Price: $52.00 If the Mobo is dead then the following will fix that problem, I have used 2 Q6600 cpu's I had laying around (these Cpu's still have a lot of kick) with these parts with great success. ASRock G41M-VS3 G41 All-In-One DDR3 Motherboard Our Price: $47.00 Patriot Gamer2 PGD38G1333ELK 8G Kit(4Gx2) DDR3 1333 |

Ive cleaned the socket with the cleaner, but I cant test the parts because I dont have a spare PSU to work with. Since Ive got an Antec HCG-520 PSU for my main rig now, I was thinking of using this PSU for this build and get a decent PSU to replace it as I'm planning to upgrade when Ivy Bridge is released and possibly a dual-card configuration (Crossfire HD7870 most likely). When I do get dual cards for my main rig, my existing gtx560 will go into this build. Also, Ive got an ASRock z68 Extreme3 Gen3 for my main rig. Really impressed with this board. I actually like to have a modular PSU to keep my case neater. I was looking at Silverstones Strider plus 750w but if the Antec HCG can be justified, Ill go with it. There is one thing I will say about modular Psu's they are pointless, by the time you install cables for optical drives hard drives video card ect they soon are the same as their non modular counterparts. And any decent case lets you route not only needed cables, but any unneeded ones behind the motherboard anyway. But whatever floats your boat, either way there is not really any difference IMHO. :) |

For the past few days, Ive been talking to one of my mates about exchanging graphics card. He's got a 9800gtx+, and it wont run with his 4-5 yo Antec 450w PSU. Luckily I havent bought any PSU yet. If I end up getting the 9800gtx+, will the Antec VP450P PSU be enough for the whole system? I tried Newegg's PSU calculator and it said that I need around 460 watts, excluding accessories...
ps: I only have around $60 to spend, excluding delivery. This post has been edited by cohmoddersolo: Apr 3 2012, 07:58 PM |

yes the psu will have heaps more power than you need
if your mate is having problems there is probably something wrong with the psu -------------------- 2600k@4.8GHz 1.38v - Z77-GENE - 2x4g 1600 8-9-8 - 7970 1150\7000MHz 1.15v - OCZ Synapse 120g Seagate 2tb - Seasonic XP1000 - Dell U2711 - Pioneer Todoroki 5.1

yes the psu will have heaps more power than you need if your mate is having problems there is probably something wrong with the psu Thanks for the reply Dasa. Well, he says that its 4-5 years old. I presume the internals of a PSU, that old, like the capacitors, will start to wear after long period of usage. Ive ordered the Antec 450w anyways. UPDATE2:
I got my PSU this morning. Tested all the parts, and everything's working fine. So, I would decide on what I want to do with modding the case. Id like to post a modding log too if I can. edit: so my mate is keeping his 9800gtx+ cause he's getting a new psu. Qwik Kuestion, will my system bottleneck a gtx560? I will be OCing my processor to balance it out. Cheers. This post has been edited by cohmoddersolo: Apr 11 2012, 08:26 PM |
