Why wont my Galaxy S2 upgrade to ICS Options

Help my S2 wont ungrade to ICS. My friends upgraded his through Kies but mine says that it's up to date (2.3.6)
I have an unbranded Galaxy S2, purchased outright. I'm with Telstra.
I've tried googling the codes listed below but that didn't turn up anything that could help.
PDA:KK2 / PHONE:KI4 / CSC:KK1(XSA)

Also maybe try doing the update without the sim in the phone?

No sim, havent tried that, will try that now.
bought it from Harvey Norman, a friend owns a branch down here and he matched MobiCity's price.

And was it listed as unbranded at HN or was it via Vodafone/Optus/etc and you just bought it outright?


edit: nvm just looked at HN site, it is listed as out right.


I'd guess then that the sim is stopping you from updating.

yeah it was an unbranded version, 100% vanilla.
atm Kies is currently searching for the lastest firmware

Kies without the sim still reports that it's current.

I'm 95% sure that my mate is with Telstra aswell. I dont get it.

Ah well I might sign up for the $59cap and get the Nexus for $0 and sell the S2 ????

Strange that Kies still doesn't want to update for you.

I'd try and check for you with my phone, but I can't since I've flashed a custom ICS rom on it.

I thought my wifes was going to upgrade but it only went upto 2.3.6. Hers is a Telstra branded version.

not far off Nuke, got told by samsung that it should be within a fortnight, if it takes longer call them and they'll try to "push" it to the phone.

yes this is very easy to do, hit up XDA Forums, grab the correct stock rom if you are wanting stock, and ODIN flash

The Nexus is a step back in some ways and a step forward in others.

The ways it's inferior to SGS2 are few and minor, in the scheme of things.

It's better in the ways that count, namely that Google update it, not those lethargic telcos. ;)

ICS Update for my SGS2 Telstra branded came out last night, definitely seems a bit snappier.

Had a look at my workmate's S2 after ICS installed and I have to say I would much rather just put a custom ROM on.

I very much like my AOKP design over Samsung's butchery.
