So I've started to play with Linux a bit, I still have NFI what I'm doing, but whatever.

So it came with Firefox installed, no probs but I tried to install Thunderbird with no luck. So I downloaded the install package and clicked on 'extract' at which point I tried to make a new folder called 'Thunderbird' only to get with 'you don't have permission to so this'?

So wassup with that then?

OK no probs it seems to be already installed.

Next problem, how to I get Ubuntu to 'mount' my NAS? I have a Buffalo NAS attached to the network. When I try to browse the network it sees the 'windows network' and then 'workgroup' and when I click o the workgroup folder I get "Unable to mount location Failed to retrieve share list from server " I also have another HDD in the PC which needs to be mounted as well. The only partitions Ubuntu is seeing is the one it's installed on and another partition that's on the same HDD, it doesn't see my other HDD or the network.

Thanks

There was another bit?

:P

I think you may need to install Samba sharing?

I dunno...I just read the thread title and responded, I'm no Linux guru.

It's also possible to set up auto mounting by editing the /etc/fstab file.

Here's a mini howto guide

Sounds the goods, but I don't have a 'Places' menu?

(p.s. I did an fdisk -l and it did show up my other HDD in the list (but not the NAS of course cos it's on the network) )

Bookmark this page if you're just starting with Ubuntu Director.

There's a wealth of simple How do I... questions and solutions here. An older version of this page helped my wife cope better when I first switched the home desktop to Ubuntu as the default OS. Problem is that it's grown over time and you'll now need to use search on the page to get the best out of it.
