Supermicro X9DAi, Trying to get some info

This is likely to be the basis for the next build:

http://64.174.237.181/products/motherboard.../C600/X9DAi.cfm

The only info I can't seem to find is which of the 2600 series Xeons will work with this board. Asus happily provides a list of which 6 & 8 core Xeons their twin Xeon board will accept. Supermicro don't. I sent them an email last week, but so far no reply. Can anybody else help? The last thing we want is to buy a pair of 6 core 2600's and find they aren't compatible. She who is paying for this won't spend a cent until we are certain of the facts.

That would be great if they did. One story I heard that it was the chipset that controlled which CPU's would work. And since the Asus and Supermicro both use the C602, I just wanted to make sure before getting my head ripped off.

Its supermicro. You will get 1/2 decent support.

All of them will work aslong as they have dual QPI links so I'd double check your CPU's before buying.

After reading their first reply, it is clear the reason they took so long to reply is that English isn't their first language. After several attempts they told me that all 2600 series Xeons are supported. It just seems a bit odd because Asus made it very clear in an email that their board didn't support the twin and quad core 2600 Xeons, despite using the same chipset.

Supermicro and ASUS are differnt ball games. ASUS makes lowbie comsumer lvl crap and supermicro makes OEM 24/7 lvl gear.

Should be great when its built.

Well the great thing is the expandability. The current workstation is an old twin core 775 socket Dell built dinosaur that is maxxed out with 4 Gig of ram. Rendering one image can take 4 hours, so this will be relegated as a backup unit. One of the good things with Mayo is it can apparently handle as many cores as you can throw at it. So we're starting with a pair of hex cores and 4 x 4 Gig ram. Thankfully EEC ram isn't supported or not needed with the NVidea Quattro card that's going in. My sister almost passed out when I told her that 15 core Xeons might be available next year for the board. She then mumbled something about a mortgage to pay...

any updates on this ? im keen to see how it performs in games and if its affordable would make for a very unique build.
something about dual and quad cpu systems gives me wood!!!

This build isn't about games, it's about 3D animation. There probably aren't too many games on the market that can take full advantage of a single hex core setup, let alone what this beast is capable of. This build is my sisters, as previously stated the software she uses will use as many cores as you can throw at it. My build will probably use this mobo:

http://www.supermicro.com/products/motherb...00/X9DRG-QF.cfm

The three main differences to the board my sister is getting is this one has extra width expansion slots, a larger board ( less case choices) and probably the price. I need one for the simulators I use. I don't need more cores, just a shit load more ram then the 24 Gig I currently use on my X58 series rig.
