Hey all,
my new super silent PC is being rewened by the GFX fan,its only running at 20% (min duty) but because its got something wrong with it it makes a tonne of noise, not unhealthy but loud. is there a place i can buy new ones? im too scared to try oil the bearing, if i kill it ill have to buy a new card (case only allows 2 slot cooling). Unless someone has a stock cooler they wouldnt mind throwing my way :D This post has been edited by B82R3S: Jun 29 2012, 02:40 AM -------------------- I5 3570K @ 4.5 1.3v | Asus P8Z77I-Deluxe | 8GB Gskill Ram | HD6870 1GB | 120GB Vertex 2E | 1.5TB HDD | Silverstone SG08

If its just a reference cooler you could have a look on Ebay, there are heaps of GPU fans on there.
The problem with GPU fans is you usually have to take the whole heatsink apart to get at them (replace or oil), which means you also have to replace the thermal paste etc. I personally would just try putting oil in the existing fan, chances are a new fan with take the same length of time to fail as the current one. -------------------- not working is hard work

I tend to prefer non-conductive silicon-based goop for GPUs (and CPUs, for that matter) as there's less risk of something going wrong if you put a bit too much on.
As above, try replacing the paste but keep the stock thermal pads. Failing that, look into a 2-slot aftermarket cooler that's compatible with your card. I assume it's a reference design model? Find the product page (check the card for a model number, or use the freeware program GPU-z) and double check before you purchase a replacement. -------------------- "TheFrunj doesn't guess, when he forms words with his lips, the world will Warp and change to do his bidding." - Shikimaru

sorry i meant the GPU Core id as5, im not sure what id do with the ram modules, or will the thermal pads not destroy themselves when i remove the HSF?
yeah 2 slot aftermarket may be an idea... but ive only got 2 pci slots, what most 2 slots are the card + 2 extra slots... -------------------- I5 3570K @ 4.5 1.3v | Asus P8Z77I-Deluxe | 8GB Gskill Ram | HD6870 1GB | 120GB Vertex 2E | 1.5TB HDD | Silverstone SG08

Say one of Arctic Cooling's units http://www.arctic.ac/en/p/cooling/vga.html -------------------- She's going to be really smart, very savvy, haunting good looks, really good at her job. Personally will never ever buy an arctic cooling product again, not after the piece of shit accelero 2 I once tried for a HD4850, the OP IMO is better off just taking his time and oiling the bearings.
