I have an Asus P8Z68-V le, an i7 2600k.
My current cooling is a Thermaltake Frio. Temps on stock clock don't look too good D: what sort of temp range should I be looking at for this sort of rig? I've never had any good experience with cooling so far. My previous amd system had a 3R Ice Age, but that wasn't great either with temps... |

It would be helpfull if you provided the following info: 1. What ARE the temps you currently have?????? -------------------- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=znodcpMzcnA&feature=player_embedded |

Yep and what fans you have in the case and their orientation (which way they move air). -------------------- She's going to be really smart, very savvy, haunting good looks, really good at her job. And kind of slutty.

All cores running at 34-38 at the moment. I got nothing on. Core speed is down to 1600mhz with core voltage between 1.006 to 1.058.
With prime95 running, temps are: 58-61 core speed is at 4200mhz , with voltage between 1.296 - 1.304 In terms of airflow: 2xFans suck air into the case from the front 1xbig fan pushes out the case at the top 1xfan pushes air out of the case at the back - lined with cpu fan 1xfan sucks air from the front of the case into the cpu cooler fins 1xfan sucks air out of cpu cooler fins towards back of the case 1xhole in side panel (i removed the fan from there no space) psu located at bottom of case and blowing air upwards This post has been edited by ameel: Dec 21 2011, 11:37 AM |

I am saying the temps are not high, and are in fact quite acceptable. So no you do not need to upgrade your cooling.

There is plenty of room for over clocking from what I can see.

Yeah its not too bad, I wouldn't want to run one of those chips over 70-80c under load though.
Depending on your board and chip, you may be able to get 4-4.5ghz at a relatively low voltage which in turn means very little heat increase. -------------------- My Rig: ASUS P67 Sabretooth | i5 2500k @ 4.6ghz w/ Corsair H80 | 8gb G.Skill Ripjaw-X 1866mhz | 2x7950 @ 1000mhz CrossfireX| NZXT Phantom | Corsair HX850

Alright. Thanks for that. I'm gonna give OC a few more tries.
I was just a bit disappointed with the temperature readings. was hoping to get below 30 on idle and below 50 on load :( |

These do run a little hotter but have lots of headroom, hence the average's are a little over what your used to but thats the norm for Most people.
Day 1- (Without the De-Clocking Steppings) I got 4.5ghtz without trying as a stable 24/7 clock, temps were 38*-45*c idle and 58*-72*c load (video encoding) Day 2- Enabling the 1.6ghtz Idle stepping and took the 4.5ghtz to 4.7ghtz and then needed voltage, got my i7 2600k up to 4.99ghtz in the end annoying enough to not hit 5ghtz but oh well. Factor in motherboard quality, psu, cooling/making sure everything is seated correctly and you should be in for a decent experience :) Stock Cooling info... for the lulz (@ 3.5ghtz, no 1.6ghtz speedstep) 40-50*c Idle and 60-70*c = Average Temp gaming,.. 83*c = after a few mins of heavy Load Video encoding. Ahh. awesome i see. i should try to crank up the cpu fans to high speed instead of low. that should probably cool it down more as well (but it gets pretty loud). I managed to get 5Ghz previously. I jumped voltage to 1.45 i think (didn't bother incrementing). tested with prime over 24hours. worked just fine but bsod randomly after a while (when prime's not on). so i took it down a notch to auto-volt and 4.2 as it is atm. Im suspecting the bsod might not necessarily be the cpu. heard there were issues with sandforce ssds. will look into firmware update tonight. thanks for the stock cooling info as well! it's a bit comforting |

My Thermaltake frio has an adjustable fan. right now its on slowest mode. it gets too loud if i crank it up, but i'll try for the sake of testing later tonight. |

Nothing unusual in those temps. but its a thermaltake frio? isn't that supposedly one of the better air cooling devices? What is most important is what your load temps are. Your load temps arent bad. At idle those temps are still fine totally. So overall its fine. Thats still cooler at idle than the stock cooler and at load more importantlly your looking at a massive difference in temps. -------------------- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=znodcpMzcnA&feature=player_embedded |
