FYI, you can also get a 7970 for about $30-$40 more, from various retailers, if you're so inclined.

This is a great review of the 670, it is indeed a good card, especially for out of the box performance. You will see it is about equal to the 7970 until you start gaming at 1080p or higher then the 7970 becomes a better card, especially if you plan to overclock. 670 uses GPU boost which overclock itself automatically, so it does seem much better performer in games when you look at reviews, but remember it is already overclocking itself when you see these numbers. it really depends what you want the card for, I would be happy with either. If you want to compare theoretical performance, not out of the box performance, take a look at hwbot 3dmark 11 charts. The highest score from a gtx670 is about 11.4k, the highest score from a 7970 is about 16.2k, there is only one score better which is a 680 with 16.4k from kingpin himself, so I would argue it is the enthusiast card of choice, despite your expert opinion. Edit: Link Also Heaven DX11 is a similar story. Take what you will from that. so according to you when we compare Intel and AMD CPU's now we can't look at turbo boost? come off it mate its part of the chip design...

This thread has me interested as I myself am about to lay down cash for new a new GPU(s). So is 7970 in CF more appropriate than GTX 670 SLI for a 120hz monitor?

It would be nice if we had a refresh of reviews, maybe when the GTX 660 comes out it will have the latest drivers for both camps with the benchmarks. Really I think it comes down to the games you like, res, and price. Right now I dont think you could go wrong with either side.
Maybe someone wants to do a direct compare in 3dmark11 to mine with a clock to clock compare? Turn your hyper threading off, set the cpu at say 4.0ghz, set ram at 1600mhz 9-9-9-24 t1. Run the gpu at 1150c(thats my stock) and the ram at 6210m(stock for mine). Anyone for the fun? This post has been edited by gamble: Aug 5 2012, 12:09 PM -------------------- C.M. Well a store that I buy my parts from usually is MSY and right now the lowest price gtx 670 and the lowest price 7970 are both at $449. Now the gtx 670 was (when released) at a very good price as it was almost as fast as the 7970 while saving a good $50, however now that's all changed, not only has the updated drivers of the 7970 proven to boost performance by quite abit, they are both now at the same price range. Throw in that the 7970 overclocks much better and then its a no brainer. Then again it all comes down to preference as both are good cards, but seeing as 90% of people here are computer enthusiasts, its pretty obvious which is the better card now.
Edit: No I am not slamming the gtx 670 do not take it the wrong way. I am merely stating that nvidia seem to love their premium price tag, that is all, it is a brilliant card and I wouldn't slam anyone for getting it but I would however say that the 7970 is at the perfect price to pick up atm for enthusiasts/gamers. http://www.staticice.com.au/cgi-bin/search...res=1&pos=2 - GTX 670's for $400
http://www.staticice.com.au/cgi-bin/search...res=1&pos=2 - 7970's for $430 There are pros and cons of both cards, the 7970 is faster and clocks a lot better it is also has more memory so performs better at resolution above 1080P. The 670 is much cooler and uses considerably less power for 90% of the performance. Don't be blinded by fanboi-ism choose the card that suits you best. -------------------- 08/11/2012 the day the music died.

19-64w difference depending on the game used to test isn’t what i would call a huge difference but the gtx670 is awesomely small without its hsf only needs two 6 pin power plugs and the reference model is a bit quieter

i have tested 680 670 and 7970 and the 7970 destroys the 680 with the new drivers
though i have to admit, the nvidia adaptive vsync makes gaming smoother than amd |
