What up people

Figured I would do what all the cool cats do and make a build thread for my new streaming rig for GTV, after all who doesn't like seeing pics of new hardware?

As a preface the vast majority of this build has come about from generous donations from the Australian and New Zealand Team Fortress scenes along with a few amazing fans from abroad so I have to thank each and every person who contributed both in a monetary sense and of course those who gave positive feedback and support!

For those unaware I recently dropped neigh on $700 for a new internet connection and a router that would support the technology so I could stream high definition content (no NBN or cable here folks) and purchased some new second hand components to get GTV streaming at 720p, rather than having to choose between low quality 480p streams or 720p local recordings. Unfortunately luck wasn't on my side and shortly after purchasing the new setup discovered that the supposed 'overclocking motherboard' I had purchased with my 1055t didn't want to run my ram at 1600mhz, let alone overclock the CPU. Two months later the hardware had become really temperamental resulting in all sorts of fun things like blue screens while casting.

It was suggested I ask the community for help to get back up and running, I originally didn't like the idea but decided I would give it a shot and see what the response was.

$680 in 5 days was the response

Words don't describe how awesome that is, and we will pump out content multiple times a week with even more vigour and excitement knowing so many people get something out of our coverage.

Anyway -> to the build thread

Here is the parts list for the new build, all of which is due to arrive in the morning

Intel i7-3770k
Asus p8z77-m Pro
Kingston Hyper-X DDR3-1600 2x4gb
Samsung 830 128gb SSD

Coming in the next week is a Enermax 625w Modular power supply kindly donated by Juke - in the meantime I have a decent PSU on loan so I can get the rig up and running asap.

These components will be joining my trusty AMD 5770 and Corsair H60 in an abomination of a case donated by a friend as my current cases don't have mounting points the H60s fan can attach to without fouling other components.

Future purchases will include a Fractal Design R3 Mini case, another 8gbs of dual channel ram, and a raid setup for lossy local recording of 1080p content while streaming without burdening the CPU too much.

Pics

The workspace - yes that is an actual bar with only the centre light going at present, given my height it is perfect for working on projects and with the overhead lights and work light I can find every screw hiding behind a motherboard -_-

The old rig minus the H60 (Couldn't leave the side on before rofl) The new PSU and eventual case purchase will usher in a new world for me with things such as cable management.

The abomination case - a good half hour of cleaning to be had here, at the time of writing I had finally finished cleaning the inside and test fitting the PSU and H60 to ensure there are no legacy issues with the case.

So yeah more to follow tomorrow!

So the parts finally arrived, but not without a hitch.

Somehow I received a 3770 non k model, luckily I opened up the box of goodies when I picked the system up to check everything was good!

My luck did improve significantly following this setback though because one of the guys st KISS I.T. had a spare 2500k sitting around which he gave to me (a guy he had never met before) so I could get my rig up and running while I waited for my 3770k to arrive, how cool is that?

The build went without a hitch and booted first time, although I did get a rather random blue screen upon the first restart in the installation process which meant having to wipe the ssd and try again.

Anyway here I am 24 hours later the night before I leave to drive to Auckmageddon lan with an awesome PC running smooth as butter - again thank you to everyone who helped out with this!

Now for the pics:

I love new goodies....

2500k and ram seated nicely

Now for the case install

And finally adding in the 5770 and finishing off what cabling amangement I can do with this case and PSU - things will look a lot better when the Enermax Modular PSU arrives and I finally get my grubby mits on a Define R3 Micro-ATX case.

So yeah not the flashiest build but everything is working great!
