Some strong opinions here - anyone want to PM as to who/what they think the problems are? Things are obviously reaching a head, but I've not heard anything about any recent issues.

I don't have a problem with any people in particular at all; my opinion is just a personal thing, there are a lot of smart clued up people that post in TGR who have strong opinions on current events and the like. But there are also many mis-informed people too. That's life. I steer clear of it because I feel like sometimes I'm either a) not smart enough to be involved in 3/4 of the topics, or b) just don't care about the topic(s). :P
Pretty sure bowie is not reading this, but would love it if he considered sticking around the tech sections. They need the love. -------------------- s3x.

I had this conversation with Tinnie a while back. I personally don't think there's anything you can do about it. Things haven't changed much, in essence. The biggest difference I can see is the type of person that now frequents the Green Room. 10 years ago the majority were true technology geeks and with that, most had a common ground. We don't have that anymore, except perhaps in the tech forums... most of the time. These days, anyone who simply likes computer games refers to themselves as a geek, but it's not quite the same thing. That was very evident in a recent Green Room post about someone feeling bored because he tired of playing games. A technophile would find plenty of other things to do with a PC, even it was just to dismantle it.... and 10 years ago that would naturally develop into a lengthy thread about every weird and wonderful things found in the process, right down to the last piece of lint and the spider that's clearly been living there for years. To be honest, *this* is the sort of thing I miss around here. These days, the forums seems to be filled with bored people looking for amusement, rather than occupied people wanting to share their experiences. The only solution ? People need to get a life offline. Perhaps everyone should take a closer look at their PC. They might find things more interesting than the CD/DVD tray and the on/off switch. I'm not bothered by any particular members either but I also don't feel I have anything in common with most of them, which is the foremost reason I rarely post. -------------------- Every once in a while, declare peace. Just out of curiosity, do you frequent the tech sections at all? Lots of like minded people in there that just flat out avoid the green room, so we're still here, we mostly stick to tech, I venture into the green room every now and then, but its only when I'm bored during work, much prefer to talk about games or tech with people, although my commitment to that has been slipping lately too. I think the biggest issue is that people just get a little too hurt when someone challenges their opinion or belief without stating or explaining their own opinion first, I don't know if its any different to how it was 10 years ago in TGR, but its certainly something that has been mentioned in a few feedback threads lately. Even more of an issue perhaps, is something you mentioned NightOwl, the posting of new/interesting threads, I don't think the interesting threads have dropped off because people need to get out more, there are plenty of people here who lead awesome sounding lives, I think those types of threads either just never take off now (ie. they seem to get ignored), or die really quickly, whereas the really meaty topics can stay on the front page for days. -------------------- My Rig: ASUS P67 Sabretooth | i5 2500k @ 4.6ghz w/ Corsair H80 | 8gb G.Skill Ripjaw-X 1866mhz | 2x7950 @ 1000mhz CrossfireX| NZXT Phantom | Corsair HX850

I don't have anything awesome enough to say that even approaches the level of awesome that bowiee has brought to the forums over the years :-( All I can do is echo the well-wishes of others and acknowledge that sometimes Life just has to take priority. Tricksy thing, that.

I've decided to stay clear of TGR. I thought that by merely ignoring certain member's posts it'd make it a little more tolerable; turns out it doesn't. TGR is not even a shadow of what it used to be and just sits here like a steaming pile of of bile, anger & recycled monkey vomit IMO. It's funny how bandwagons work like that.-------------------- "I think it is a sad reflection on our civilization that while we can and do measure the temperature in the atmosphere of Venus we do not know what goes on inside our soufflés" -- Nicholas Kurti

To be honest here without implying, or wanting to insult bowiee or any one else ...
I don't think TGR has been too bad lately. In fact it's been a bit droll really. From what I've heard and read around the place, 'cause I wasn't on board ten years ago, I'd have to agree with Spriggan's comment re control, now, and past anarchy. bowiee said it himself, he's got a full life and issues to manage, and as a result, his tolerance level is not what it used to be. Like others here I'm hoping he'll get the urge to partake again. He's not got himself banned, so his move is a positive step for him ... ..." nothing to see here folks " :P I'm The classic case of a non tech / non geek, and I don't care :) because of this place and my sometimes not so patient mate, it takes longer now before my eyes start to glaze over when reading, listening, or watching anything tech related :) edit 1: " , " edit 2: ... and I reckon it's been droll because ... The green room 10 year ago was controlled anarchy. The green room today is just controlled anarchy is fine. It's when people only post to personally attack someone that it becomes something else. Some people engage that type of behaviour, some ignore it and others leave. I used to have some ripping arguments with particular folks in the past, but I had the utmost respect for them. Me thinks the respect between combatants has gone in some cases. -------------------- Karl Kruszelnicki - No, I’m fully prepared to believe in the “Church of God the Utterly Indifferent who sets the universe going and says you’re on your own kids.

Now back when I was a youngster you were lucky to have a landline rotary phone let alone any tech.
But used to have fun with a wide variety of homebrewed explosives (libraries and hardware stores and chemists were awesome) and crystal radio sets. :{D And no, this isn't an exagerated "when I was a kid" story. -------------------- LIFE!

The green room 10 year ago was controlled anarchy. The green room today is just controlled I was going to say almost the exact same thing. Go to the archives and actually read some of the stuff people went on about 2/4/6/8/10 years ago. The place hasn't changed, your opinion of it has. I've only read a smattering of the archives, from what I did see the content and style are not much different from today. If I'd been witness to the ' wonder time ' of 10 years ago I guess I might feel as sentimental as some others do.
