Requesting Laptop advice.

A couple of days ago, I was given a Dell Latitude C840 (PP01X) to keep. The laptop is in excellent condition but a couple of things were missing which are the hard drive caddy and the hard drive itself.

I've managed to get my hands on a caddy so that will take at least a few days to arrive but what I really need to know is if a compatible hard drive is required or is purchasing any type okay.

Any advice would be appreciated.

Thanks.

the only difference you need to know is if its IDE or SATA that can be connected in your notebook. if its IDE, The only limit is the size of the largest ATA hard drive you can get your hands on. Laptops typically take 2.5" hdd.

You will find that it is 90% a IDE drive in the laptop.

Samsung 160G IDE notebook HDD 5400RPM (8Mb Cache) Internet Price: $86 ( prices from umart )

Do you know how to install windows onto the laptop once you've installed the drive Blue fire?

I'm fully aware of what the C840 requires. I just need to know what it's limited to.

From previous experience, more than a dozen times, of course. ;)

Edit: I'm basically looking for at least a 80GB or 60GB hdd but I will still take the 160GB into consideration.

Sorry didn't mean to offend if I did. Good luck getting a 80gb or 60gb drive. I would just grab the 160gb out of ease.

You might be fully aware but you didn't state that nor hint that you were... and dude I think I answered yer question by saying as large as it can go and mudg3 re-affirmed that with the size and was kind enough to provide a price too.. next time, Ill keep my mouth shut cause obviously you're fully aware...
