Stay safe all. Can't believe I'm missing the storm of the generation while stuck in Whistler!! I'd love to be back in Cairns or Cardwell right now.

On a side note, Yasi = Yasmina which is Persian for a fragrant flower.
Yasi does look like flower, just one about few hundred KM in size ...

Will be a miracle if there aren't deaths in the Cairns/Innisfail region.

I've only ever been through a Cat 4 (which quickly dropped to a Cat3) in Cairns. Number of Cat 1, 2 and 3's and the damage they make is incredible. I can't imagine what a 5 is going to do. From memory our old house was only rated to a Cat 4 as well... and it had a lot of work put into 'Cyclone proofing'.

I live in Darwin, we've had a few scrapes with Cat 4 and 5s ... for a house to survive Cat 5, it'd be like prison.

It's hard to even know what to compare it to, Katrina perhaps but even that did not have this large a storm front.

Having been through Tracey I would not be sticking around for this one, I hope all the Queenslanders stay safe, and if it hits head on do not go out in the eye, the winds pick up again incredibly quickly, damned dangerous to be out even in the still.
