4870x2 not Booting Red LED R570 on Solid, "Help!?!" Options

Hey All,

Need a little help please, just recently I have been having problems booting into Windows 7 RC (32bit), it would lock up just after trying to load my USB devices, I narrowed it down to my graphics drivers as I was able to boot into safe mode remove the graphics drivers from device manager then able to reboot into windows normally. Only problem was it would auto install the driver once again then next time I rebooted was confronted with the same problem once again. Since then I used “Driver Cleaner” and was temporarily getting by with the basic windows driver as I was waiting for the arrival of my Patriot SSD drive. Well the drive has arrived and I have gotten to work putting it in.. Once booted I updated the Bios from RAID back to IDE. Saved changes rebooted to be presented with the following problem on my 4870x2 card one RED LED constantly on and the pc wont present video "D7 (R570) GPU-2 (Slave) No power"

I have tried the following:

• removing and reinserting the card into the PCI-EXPR slot
• removing reinstalling both 6 & 8 pin connectors checking leads
• removed the power lead from the PSU & MB battery for over 10 mins
• removed all power to all other devices except the MB and Graphics card

with the same result.

I have been googling it for a bit but can't seem to find an answer with a outcome.

My only guess is I some how I've caused damaged to the card or the 750watt Zalman PSU has decided not to pump out enough juice.

Anyone have any suggestions?

After typing all of this the PC booted without the LED on. Then restarted with the LED back on & no display "Square One". "SSD was not plugged in but an additional DVD burner was connected (not part of my normal setup) Maybe inadequate power supply?

Just pick up a 1000Watt Coolmaster PSU today.

No luck unfortunatly still experiancing the same issue. Card seem to only boot once randomly then nothing....

WooHoo I fixed it,

I found a 6 pin chip on the rear of the card that required re-soldered from more then likely movement of the card.

Something tells me I didnt fix it after all. FAIL

Yeah its the GPU buddy looks like you need to RA that card looks like faulty VRAM

cross your fingers they don't look at the solder job or the screw heads for stripped/damaged heads.

I'll be recycle binning the card (no RMA).

Only reason I took a soldering Iron to it is for the fact I brought it off ebay for $550 & no Invoice. So it was a hope for the best purchase (note to self: do not buy graphics cards off ebay)

The card only lasted 6 months in my possession; will pop the water block on ebay soon.

I've placed a deposit down for a Gigabyte 5850 @ Centrecom yesterday (at least it will come with a 2 warranty).

Yeah, I killed my card, about 6 months after I bought it, static electricity :P

Got it RMA'd and it only took 2 weeks, was so happy. Its a shame about yours though mate.

Im sure you could give RMA'ing a go. I did it to a 3870x2 that wasnt even mine. Dead one from work dude bought a 4850 gave me the dead card i RMA'd only with the serial number they sent me a 4870.

Ok, I'll give it a shot fingers crossed.

But how do I do a RMA if the card was brought from the States. I guess I'll e-mail HIS directly as see was happens.

Give them a serial number to, should help verify that the card is real.

Yeah just give them the serial number dosent matter if its from the states. They will still warrant the card.
