Yeah, bumping this again because we were looking for an alternative, but it seems uVNC SC is still the best free one.
It even handles UAC... sort of... JoinMe is also pretty good, (LogMeIn off-shoot), but they're moving more aggresively in to a paid solution now. Bomgar looks good, but I suspect it's prohibitively expensive. All the others are more complicated than singleclick because they involve screwing around with PINs etc... whereas with SC they just double click on whoever you tell them to, and it works straight away, (but yeah, it relies on the user getting outbound access on whatever port you're using... using port 80 kinda helps). Fun fact: it's increasingly common that when I ask people to go to my website to download the TeamViewer Quicksupport client they ask where to find "my website" on their computer.

they ask where to find "my website" on their computer. Ye getting that or similar too. Like why can't they access the emails on their computer if their net connection is not working when they are using gmail, or (gulp) hotmail. Perhaps my explaining is not very good but the response is generally along the lines "but I saw it on my computer last week, why can't I see it now?" -------------------- She's going to be really smart, very savvy, haunting good looks, really good at her job. I love that one.
I wondering if it happens to, say, RAC pick-up trucks? "The battery's flat now, but it was fine yesterday!" -------------------- "Unless I call you a stupid goddamn liar to your face, I'm being light hearted." - tantryl, to all you evil fucks

I love that one. I wondering if it happens to, say, RAC pick-up trucks? "The battery's flat now, but it was fine yesterday!" Don't need to be RAC roadside assist to hear it as I have had people say that or similar as I am fishing out my super duper jumper leads to give them a start. Have even heard "but it wasn't flat an hour ago" when referring to a punctured car tyre. So I suppose it's previous state means it shouldn't be in it's current state. :P -------------------- She's going to be really smart, very savvy, haunting good looks, really good at her job. Have even heard "but it wasn't flat an hour ago" when referring to a punctured car tyre. Wow. Those people most cope incredibly poorly in the face of personal tragedy. -------------------- "Unless I call you a stupid goddamn liar to your face, I'm being light hearted." - tantryl, to all you evil fucks

Must admit I haven't actually heard a "but he was alive an hour ago" yet, but I have heard "but I was only talking to him last week" when referring to someone who had keeled over from a heart attack. -------------------- She's going to be really smart, very savvy, haunting good looks, really good at her job. Ya know, I might ask my doctor friends about that "but he was alive an hour ago" thing. I bet it happens... all... the... time.
Maybe along with the basics at primary school - reading, writing, maths, history, art, sport, science - we should add "causality". I thought I'd be smart and get people to use the Windows flag key to do some shortcuts, like flag+e for explorer, flag+d to get to their desktop, or flag+r to get the run box up so that they could type a command.
Big mistake. This post has been edited by Periander: May 2 2012, 10:14 AM |
