To break it down from 5 mins of boring dribble to only a few words, TELSTRA T-HUB SUCKS! I have one and it’s garbage. My heart goes out to all of the people who actually paid retail for this. I got mine for free during one of Telstra's Christmas promotions after signing up for a new land-line.
I have been searching the net for hardware specs and under-the-hood info of any type in order to try and mod this device into something useful. After all, it is based on touch-tablet devices and is not very dissimilar. It is made by Siemens and it has a model number, but their is no info or acknowledgement that it even exists on the Siemens world-wide web site. I can play videos, music and view pictures on it, but it is very touchy with what file types it plays (even some videos and music encoded correctly to play on this device sometimes have problems playing). I would like this device to have more compatibility for such file formats, and an ebook reader is also a must. I would like to know if there is any way to install Android OS on it or perhaps the Tabbee (as 6the T-Hub is known in the UK) Software, which is open to much more customisation and controllability and has even got support for downloadable apps. The onboard Telstra software really lets this device down, and I feel it can be put to much better use as a full blown tablet and it is probably up to the task. Cheers. |

Found this interesting snippet over on the Whirlpool forums:
QUOTE Jailbreakable ????? Apparently it is the same as the Orange Tabee So It runs Linux - Maybe some enterprising soul can "jailbreak" it and change widgets , menus and remove restrictions ( The information below applies to the Tabee version - I take no responsibility for the accuracy of the info) This might start a whole new thread :) You need WINSCP... Open Winscp and create a new session. You will need to complete the host name, login and password and then set the encryption type. – Host Name: Your Tabbee IP address, which can be found by going to (Settings) and then clicking on “About”. – User name: root – Password:$agem30 To set the encryption type go to the SSH menu, select 3DES in the list and move it up to the top of the list. Click connect to establish the connection. You may get a few security messages - just select Yes. This will give you access to home/root. To gain access to home you will need to run a console command Open a console in winscp (Click Command on the menu then click Open a Console). Type the following text: mount -oremount, rw / Nothing particular will happen in the console window but when you return to the main winscp window you should now be able to navigate up to the Home directory where you can see much more. One very useful folder that is now accessible is mnt/mmc. This is the contents of your SD card (if you have one installed) and you can use winscp to copy files to it. Using the above quoted details, I have tried to connect to My T-Hub using WinSCP v4.29 but to no avail. I keep getting "Network Error. Connection Timeout." My details are: Host Name: 192.168.1.7 User Name: root Password: $agem30 I have also set the encryption type in the SSH menu to 3DES as specified. I have successfully PINGed the device in a command prompt as well (so there is definitely a communication to the device). I would like to know what I am doing wrong to be getting a Connection Timeout every time I try to connect. I have read from several sources that people have successfully connected to their T-Hubs using this method (no changes necessary) and are changing ringtones, graphics, and changing internal settings through an SQL database. |

Did you ever get this to work? |
