Flashed my 2 6850's to 6870's, dang nice Options

So I flashed my 2 sapphire 6850 cards to a 6870 bios using RBE or radeon bios editor.

It still keeps the 960 stream processors but core jumps to 900mhz and 1.172v and mem to 1050mhz.

I then overclocked the mem further to 1150mhz.

Final result in Heaven v2.1 was:

FPS: 62.9

SCORES: 1585

MIN FPS: 21.0

MAX FPS: 146.9

Not sure if thats good or not but I am happy with it, and certainly destroys my old 5870 card.

Thanks man! Its pretty easy to do and a huge boost to this card which makes the $210 spent big value :) on each card.

yea pretty much, like I flashed my GTX570 to a 580 but didn't get the extra shaders but its still a 580.

can you please post a step by step tutorial so i can flash my 6850 to a 6870 btw it is a sapphire too...and if you can post the bios you flashed its way simpler:)

no need to waste your time with it, just use afterburner and up the clocks.

great work on the flash man, always good to get a free upgrade pretty much.
note though for those considering flashing their 6850 - , 6850's are either 6870's that didnt make the grade or are flashed to make the model quota. some will flash fine, others may crap themselves. backup the original bios, and have a backup video card in case the flash goes wrong.
and remember when using RBE dont have anything running in the background while it flashes. for a whole heap of bios files head over to http://www.techpowerup.com/vgabios/

Yes just go to the techpowerup website, linky above in deejeta's post, and download the 6870 bios, I had sapphire cards so choose a saphire 6870 bios.

Download radeon bios editor or RBE, I had to force the bios write though, as it wouldn't do it the traditional way.

You will have to read through the RBE to understand what your doing and the risk, as you could kill your card.

I had two so no biggie, plus I love playing with tech and pushing it.

My mate has 2 6870 saphires in crossfire and he only gets 2fps more in heaven benchmark.
But his are alot hotter then my cards, lol, and use more juice too.

But if the price is right then go for the 6870, this was just a 'see you can do it' if you want to post.

when I was looking at ways to improve performance.

Just had to add this, out of both the cards one of them can overclock to 950mhz on the core and the other to 930mhz on the core, both can run 1180mhz on the memory.

how is a gtx 570 with no extra shaders a 580??? lol unless it has 512 cudas, it aint a 580 mate.. its still a 570 with a 580 bios hahah
