That is fucking amazing. Excellent comp and dof. Brilliant colours.
The only things I can see is that you've clipped part of his foot off. Apart from that it's perfect! -X -------------------- "We were being told that we must become what we are not, sacrificing what we are to inherit the masquerade of what we will be. Yeah, I saw the feet...dammit...and I only took the one shot of it at that angle before he flew off.
I was quite pleased with the sharpness too...and this was with my old D80+18-200mm at 142mm, 1/125sec @ f/5.3. -------------------- Sometimes I think the surest sign that intelligent life exists elsewhere in the Universe is that none of it has tried to contact us...

Sorry I've been away from here a while, work has just taken over.....plus a few other little side projects unrelated to photography that I am working on...
But here's a recent architectural shot that I am pretty happy with. Pics of buildings is harder than I thought...there's definitely a different feel to shooting and post compared to organic subjects. ![]() This shot is actually from my workplace. I feel quite satisfied with it, because I was actually escorting a photographer up to the top of our building, and he was asking whats a good aspect to capture the building in...he was rather overwhelmed by the place, as its the 4th tallest building in Brisbane, just recently completed. I took this shot and showed him, and he liked it, so he took the same shot with his billion fucking dollar Hasselblad 100 million megapixel wank machine...and its going to appear in some trade journal. Following along the theme of low-key lighting on portraits I did of my neice last page, I thought I might try same with a self portrait.
![]() Its really hard to get the desired effect (shown here) because if you get a bit too much light it actually seems to change the white balance. I know it can't be doing this, as white balance on my camera setting is fixed, but when you decrease exposure from say a more daylight WB pic, it seems to change it to the yellow scale. At the moment the desired effect is still beyond my grasp, I just find it by accident when adjusting levels...so I should count myself lucky for now. What I really want to do is say...I want that effect here and now, and BAM! Got it. Tried a few test shots today with my 18-300. Didn't have much inspiration today so just went for something architectural/abstract Not bad, not great...
Quite a bit of distortion in these, given that I was looking down on the subject, the subject matter really accentuates any distortion, so bit of a challenge. The Lightroom lens profile for the 18-300 really straightened things admirably, I thought - then it was just a matter of adjusting vertical distortion and a tad rotation. Upped the contrast and saturation a bit as well. ![]() 1/320sec f/5.6 120mm ISO100 ![]() 1/160sec f/5.6 165mm ISO100 ![]() 1/250sec f/5.6 175mm ISO100 This post has been edited by Antraman: Mar 30 2013, 11:00 PM -------------------- Sometimes I think the surest sign that intelligent life exists elsewhere in the Universe is that none of it has tried to contact us...

Thx Gen!
By the way, I just discovered Lightroom supports Tethered Capture...this is a cool feature. You connect your camera via mini USB to your PC (preferably USB 2 or 3), select File/Tethered Capture/Start and turn on your camera. A moveable control bar appears that you can drag out of LR to other parts of your desktop, and by a keyboard press or a mouse click on the button, it will actuate your camera, then the image will load up straight away in LR. This is excellent for say a studio shoot, where your model can see the result of your shooting immediately, which helps give them feedback on how they look. A great icebreaker. Plus you can see straight away too how your shooting is looking for adjustments etc. In the studio you would be bound to your desktop, but you could also have LR on a laptop with a decent screen and be more mobile. -------------------- Sometimes I think the surest sign that intelligent life exists elsewhere in the Universe is that none of it has tried to contact us...

Really? I did not know that. I'll definitely have to give that a shot. What version of LR are you using for it? -X -------------------- "We were being told that we must become what we are not, sacrificing what we are to inherit the masquerade of what we will be. I've got 3.2 and it's in that version. I can't believe it was hiding in the File menu all along...
I just had a play with it and all I can say is that it is amazing. So much better than EOS Utility. The fact that you can apply changes to the image in lightroom before you shoot it is mind-blowing. It would make a studio shoot much more streamlined, being able to see the finished product almost immediately. -X -------------------- "We were being told that we must become what we are not, sacrificing what we are to inherit the masquerade of what we will be. Indeed!
I am also well aware that LR does a heap more stuff than I know of, so there probably is still little gems in there to discover. I am also playing with the web gallery and publish feature, but am having some problems with it. For some reason either DNS or the UN/PW settings I am using doesn't allow it to connect to my server. I love how it creates the HTML for a themed webpage for you. -------------------- Sometimes I think the surest sign that intelligent life exists elsewhere in the Universe is that none of it has tried to contact us...

Yea, I found out about the web gallery feature a while ago. It's really handy. What's that? You want to see an example of my portfolio? Bam. Ten seconds and I've got an awesome functioning gallery, instead of a heap of email attachments.

![]() Focus stacked macro of orchid at 30cm Nikon D7000 1/80sec f/45 ISO100 using Tokina 100mm AT-X Pro, tripod and macro flash ring, 9 images stacked in CombineZP. No post processing...images straight out of the camera. Once again, there is fuzziness in this image due to resampling by imgur.com. Original on my PC is much sharper. Have to find an image server that doesn't resample and resize. I'm quite happy at my first attempt of stacking, and my first macro shot with the Tokina. Also, thats the tightest aperture I've ever shot...f/45, LOL! Great photo, in your face, colour is vibrant (any enhancement?), a bit of softness but that is probably the resampling. Do you not have access to a webserver somewhere where you can drop the unsampled photo and then post to imgur an alternative that you have downsampled. Possible alternative in terms of webserver but i'll PM you. -------------------- Stupidity is a condition, ignorance is a choice, don't make it...
