iTunes not recognising iPad

Connecting an iPad (brand new) up to iTunes and it doesn't want to recognise it.
I can see the device through my computer, but iTunes doesn't want a bar of it. Anyone had any ideas?

It sounds like you need to update your iTunes. This happened to my father when we brought him an iPad for his birthday. iTunes refused to see it until we updated it.
