Have just jumped onto the Apple website and have found out iTunes Match is out!
$34.95 a year still sounds bloody good seeing that you can get all your songs from the 'cloud' http://www.macrumors.com/2011/12/15/itunes...nternationally/ Will have to wait until tonight to be able to test it out though This post has been edited by bowlen: Dec 18 2011, 11:41 AM -------------------- Intel i7 3770k

Just set it up on my Work PC, iPhone and iPad, seems cool... not sure about letting it download all songs over 3G though... would hate to hit shuffle and use all my data on a long drive.

But it doesn't automatically download the songs for you I'm sure. It would be the same as downloading already purchased songs over 3g, you will have to manually select it. -------------------- Intel i7 3770k

Yea, I found if I put all songs on shuffle and have download on 3G and show all songs turned on, it tries to kick off the download...

So how does it all work on your iPhone. I have set it up on a couple of computers, went to enable it on my phone and it said it will replace my entire music library on the device. I would have thought it would just enable me to download any missing songs I want.
Another thought - is it possible to set up iTunes match on a computer but not have it load all the songs up to the 'cloud'? i This post has been edited by bowlen: Dec 20 2011, 09:41 AM -------------------- Intel i7 3770k

I haven't played with it yet. Not sure it's something I actually want/ need right now.
My brother did it, mainly has his music collection is MASSIVE and he was interested in seeing how much it could pick up. He broke their limit (I am not sure what that is) though. He seems to think it's a good thing but for me, I keep my music library reasonably tidy, I ensure I am synching only what I would most likely listen to when out and about and wouldn't want to stream over 3G anyway. -------------------- Disclaimer: this post may have been made via a mobile device. Limit is 25,000 songs. I have found it alright but nothing too special.

Many thanks, W |

Sorry to sound like abit of a technological fool here guys, but could anyone do me the favour of explaining what this itunes match is? and for that matter, what are the benefits of me downloading and paying for it? Many thanks, W Essentially, iTunes match takes a list of every song you have in your iTunes library, runs that through the iTunes Music Store to see what songs you have which are identically matched (it has to be the same artist, song name and album). Once this is done, it allows you to download the songs again (iTunes Music Store quality if it is matched properly) on up to 10 machines. It is a good way of keeping multiple library's up to date with all your music. If however, iTunes can't match the song, it will actually upload it to the 'cloud' and still enable you to download it again from any machine that you have signed into your itunes account with. -------------------- Intel i7 3770k

hmmmm...sounds excellent!! it almost sounds a little bit to good!
How does this relate into music which was not purchased from itunes itself? As (like most people) some of my music comes from youtube - when it is being scanned into this itunes system, are we sure that it wouldnīt delete these items?? I donīt want to lose some of the classic music I have collected over the years!!! Thanks for your help! |

If it doesn't match to the music store, it uploads it to still allow you to download it from other PCs. At no stage will it delete your music. -------------------- Intel i7 3770k

So something I found that was a bit weird. If you use Home Sharing and want to transfer a song from one machine to another, it seems to copy the song, then double it up with the iCloud version. I would have assumed that if you copy a song from one computer to another and it has the exact same name as the iCloud version, it wouldn't double up??
What happens if you get a new machine and then copy like 40gb of music across? -------------------- Intel i7 3770k

Fucking iTunes Match keeps fucking conking out while uploading. This is not fun.
Still not uploading properly. *sigh. This is frustrating, but I'll persevere, because if I can get this working I'd be stoked. This post has been edited by Girvo: Feb 22 2012, 12:52 AM -------------------- brains: NO U R RONG N00B VISTA IS 4 N00BZ N LINUX IS HIPPIE SHIT
