Hi all,

I'm wanting to get a logo / banner made for a LAN event and clan just wondering what's a reasonable price to pay? I have not a single creative bone in my body so doing it myself isn't of the cards =[

asking on a quiet forum for a paying job will usually attract a lot of cheap work by desperate students. you'll have people willing to offer work for $50 and it being terrible, but a good chance of it being great if they are that desperate. depends what you're after

do you just want a vectorised (make it as big as you want without losing quality) logo, or do you want a design and print of a large banner to hang somewhere? or just a website forum banner?

I'll pm you some more info about graphic sizes

Logos often play around $30 to $50 depending on your demands and needs. Unlike before, you can get someone good enough to make you a logo or a banner thanks to Photoshop.

There is a lot of freelancer websites you can register and find yourself a good but cheap logo maker. More often, it will take just a few hours to get this kind of project completed so it would never be a hassle mate.

Just a general response to the thread.

Logos at $30-$50 are generally template costs or in-experienced teenagers, students or naive people that taught themselves photoshop and live on Deviant art selling their soul as cheap labor.
A "reasonable" price is dependent on the designer or "person knowing Photoshop" you approach.

If your after cheap and its not for a business then I see no problem with using a self taught person from an art or design community website. Or going down the template avenue.

However it has to be said that blanketing "logos play around $30-$50" is a deceptive thing to say to someone that's not familiar with the industry as it sets false expectations.

Designers that specialise in branding typically charge an hourly rate or a flat fee.
But it has to be said that the end total can range from as little as $300 up to afew thousand,
depending on the designer and the time involved specifically when speaking about brand identity.. which logo design is a part of.

However that's only regarding Designers, freelancers and employed alike that do this for a career.

What you are probably looking for is a hobbyist, someone that dabbles in it and the pay is just a bonus.
This is where places like 99 designs or other spec work websites come in or a wide range of artist community forums like Deviant Art.

Just be mindful however when posting a job on a paid job forum like DA, you will get kiddies clawing to get the job, and at the same time you will get professional designers berating you for only offering $50 a lecture about how job is not serious at that price. You have your reasons for what you want to offer, pay no attention to the ones that don't understand the reasons behind it.

If you are getting a logo, make sure it's not done in Photoshop but rather with Illustrator (or similar).

Photoshop is great for post processing, but a Photoshop image will not scale up nicely. The image might look great on a web page, but will look awful on a large printed banner.

That's something I should have said.
You want a logo done in illustrator if there's any chance you want it to be printed
or made bigger later.

The logo, will mostly be for web content and maybe one sign print off or something. Depends on how the LAN event turns out, I appriciate all the advice, I've got an acquaintance looking at the job atm. Just wasn't sure on how much to offer her, or if she came back with a you owe me x amount, if it would be bullshit etc. Will keep ya posted on the progression
