I spent about four hours yesterday canvassing some places in the CBD. It's hard to book anything so far when there are so many 'maybes', ignoring the people who said yes but will pike, and all of the people who haven't responded.
I have some places in mind tho', and at least at this stage they are un-booked for July 28. Some places I visited flat out said no, their licences don't allow that many people. Some don't officially make private reservations but are happy if people turn up at 5-7 and camp out the place. Some want very modest booking fees - say, $750 minimum spend - while others want a minimum spend starting at $3.5k and going up to 5 or 10k. And as nice as those places are, and as diverse their range of drinks, I don't feel comfortable signing up my name for a minimum spend where we need $100 to drop it down to $50 pp, split between food and drink. Going to contact a few other places this week, and then make a shortlist and etc. -------------------- "I think it is a sad reflection on our civilization that while we can and do measure the temperature in the atmosphere of Venus we do not know what goes on inside our soufflés" -- Nicholas Kurti

You'd have to ask Juggs for certain, but I don't think we had exclusive booking at the previous 2 Sydney events. So, ;camping the place' would likely achieve a similar result. I think.

Good chance I can get this place free, if you want to do it in St Kilda.

As long as they are open to serving kilkenny, and a cider, and a decent range in bottles, we'll be happy

Is July 28th saneish?
Also, just so I have a better idea of numbers, who is in this thread or on the front page as going and maybe going that isn't on facebook/is hiding on facebook? I think I know most people, but there are a handful that I'm not sure of. Also, just to whet some appetites, I'm waiting to hear back from The Workshop. Nominally it'll be the same kind of deal as in Sydney for MeetX: we have the space for free but we can't book it exclusively, so we'd need to show up reasonably early - ~6 - to claim it by default. From memory prices are reasonable, and there is a large range of drinks. It's on a tram line/near a train station/is in the CBD. I like Workshop. It's about 2 mins walk from Melbourne Central, so there shouldn't really be any public transport concerns. Note that there IS a flight of stairs Cybes will need to negotiate to get up to it, and not really room for his chair once the place starts to fill up. |

Just so long as I know what to expect before I get there, dude. I can cope with a lot of stuff if I'm prepared. -------------------- "If you want to build a ship, don't drum up the men to gather wood, divide the work and give orders. Hi, I just Friended you on facebook (in case you were wondering who that was!). As far as the meet goes- I will try and make it, but a number of things would have to work out, first...which I won't know for a while, unfortunately. So, put me down as probably NOT attending, but I might magically appear on the night! Cheers, Stu -------------------- "There's fun to be done!"

Do we have any progress to be reported, because I'll need to put a leave form in sometime soon if it's definitely happening.

Yes. It's happening. Saturday 28 July 2012 has been locked in for about a month. WHERE exactly it's happening is still TBC. |

If it's in the CBD this makes it so much easier to get to/from with all the transport around and no having to hop on different trams etc. Specially for anyone out of town coming in for it.
