USB 3 headers on motherboard, strange problem |

So I am thinking of upgrading by Antec Dark Fleet DF-30 case to a Bitfenix Shinobi XL which has four USB 3 ports on the front panel. My current motherboard, a GA-P67A-UD3R has one 9 pin USB 3 internal connecter but no 19 pin USB 3 connector. It does however, appear to have a spot for it – labeled F_USB30 F_PANEL – but its just an empty spot with 19 gold dots on the board (see attached picture). So how do I use this spot? Do I buy some bracket/header or rip one off someone else’s board? Or is it time for a motherboard upgrade?
Attachment didn't work so here: ![]() Also, what is the difference between a 9 pin and 19 pin USB 3 header? Many thanks This post has been edited by tristan-117: Mar 21 2012, 08:16 PM |

Don't know about the difference between a 9 pin and a 19 pin header. Pretty sure you can't use the 19 gold dots and they are there because that spot is used for a header on another motherboard yours is closely related to. Maybe you could buy a PCIe USB 3.0 card .

You can't use that spot as there wont be a USB3.0 controller connected to it.
You will have to get a new motherboard or get a PCI-E USB 3.0 card that has a 19pin header on it. Or if you don't actually use USB 3 devices atm you could just use an adaptor and plug the 19pin cable into a USB 2.0 header. -------------------- not working is hard work

Thankfully the shinobi xl has 2 usb 3 cables but both also use the 9 pin header.
![]() If I use a usb 3.0 9 pin cable and connect it to a usb 2.0 9pin header will it still work? |
