I may have this all wrong of course, but I vaguely remember reading somewhere that before O/C ing a CPU that someone would google the batch number to see what the O/C potential was. The number stamped on mine is 3043A328. If I get it to 200x21 or more I'll be happy.

I think that generally been the way.
There's always been a famous golden batch with certain popular processors (like with the AMD Venice core or Intel Q6600). Usually it only really mattered if you were trying to get towards the very high clock speeds, it was usually just an indicator that a chip from that batch would have more luck getting up and stable. Pulling a multi like that should work pretty much out of the box, but as usual increase, test and repeat. -------------------- 如诸佛尽寿不杀生, 我亦尽寿不杀生

Batches usually have most significance to subzero clocking, however some golden chips might do 4.2ghz on 1.25v or better,

Pretty much what everyone else said.
You'll hit 4.2GHz on yours, regardless of batch number. The only difference will be what voltage it manages to hit that clock using. -------------------- Intel i5 3570 @ 4.5GHz - Gigabyte OC HD7970 @ 1150MHz - 16GB G.Skill Ripjaws @ 1866MHz - ASUS Maximus V Gene - Antec EA-650W Platinum - Fractal Design Define Mini - Noctua NH-U12P SE2 - 10TB Network Storage - OCZ Vertex 3 240GB (Steam) - Corsair Force GT 3 120GB (OS+BF3).

JDM it matters more whether its a C0 or D0 stepping (i7 950 is D0 from memory) so should clock up to around 4.2ghz This post has been edited by nesquick: May 10 2012, 01:15 PM -------------------- STEAM/BC2 name: AllNightmareLong
