Locked into a Telstra contract, wanting a new phone as my speaker is fucked, kind of sick of WP7 anyway; have been thinking about switching to Android for a while now.
Any recommendations? Wouldn't mind a 4G phone, I work in the city and it could well come in handy - what do I have to look for when buying for 4G? And are there any other phones on the market other than Galaxy S II and Velocity? Or is that the pick at the moment? I would assume the Galaxy would be a very nice phone no doubt; but just wondering if there's other options. Cheers -------------------- s3x.

Galaxy Nexus is better than the SGS2, but I think the aus version is only 3G.

I've been going nuts about the HTC Velocity and 4G, but no one seems to care...

Galaxy Nexus is better than the SGS2, but I think the aus version is only 3G. Hmmm, yeah, I've heard that's a good phone. But since I'm upgrading now, and 4G is available... I figured I might as well grab a 4G phone. Is there a new SGS2 out or something? Coz mine is only capable of 3G :s
And as I said, the Galaxy Nexus is superior to the SGS2. It also comes with ICS and you can get it in a 4G model, just not sure of 4g availability in aus :P -------------------- My Rig: ASUS P67 Sabretooth | i5 2500k @ 4.6ghz w/ Corsair H80 | 8gb G.Skill Ripjaw-X 1866mhz | 2x7950 @ 1000mhz CrossfireX| NZXT Phantom | Corsair HX850

Have to say after reading some reviews the SGS2 4G is looking pretty attractive. But then again, I have no idea what's just around the corner... :P -------------------- s3x.

I don't doubt that the SII 4G model is great, I have multiple friends with the standard SII, and it is very good.
The Nexus is reputed to be better, but the model I saw in the Telstra shop was 3G only it seems. What I can say though is that we already have ICS on the Velocity 4G. So go the Velocity, or wait for the SIII imo. This post has been edited by Periander: Apr 6 2012, 07:46 AM |

A bit large, but if one can tolerate it's size it will work to their advantage. -------------------- I have come here to chew bubblegum and kick ass!......and I'm all out of bubblegum

Woah woah woah... the Galaxy Nexus isn't better than the GSII. They're equal if anything, depending on your needs. Galaxy Nexus isn't as powerful as the GSII, but has a higher resolution screen. GSII has RGB subpixels (which is good), GN is pentile.
My recommendation is to take a look at the HTC One X. -------------------- "Great minds discuss ideas; Average minds discuss events; Small minds discuss people." - Eleanor Roosevelt

Thanks for the recommendations. Does the One x support 4G? Specs on the HTC site don't give me much information.
I can also wait; might check out the SGSIII as well. -------------------- s3x.

So am I correct in thinking that Samsung have re-released a 4G S2, apart from being 4g, is the hardware any different?

I haven't actually looked into it much, but I remember asking in another thread about the hardware specs and from what I understand, the nexus had the same hardware as the SGS2 but a higher resolution screen. Meh, I honestly don't know with mobiles these days. -------------------- My Rig: ASUS P67 Sabretooth | i5 2500k @ 4.6ghz w/ Corsair H80 | 8gb G.Skill Ripjaw-X 1866mhz | 2x7950 @ 1000mhz CrossfireX| NZXT Phantom | Corsair HX850

I think the S2 has a slightly better CPU, lower screen res, and smaller physical screen compared to the Nexus.
Otherwise they're fairly 'on-par' with one another. -------------------- http://steamcommunity.com/id/supervillainoutcast
