AMD Cuts price on 7900 series Options

Basically as the title says, the 7970 gets reduced from $549 to $479 and the 7950 gets reduced from $449 to $399. AMD also is giving away 3 games with the purchase of anyone of these cards, Deus Ex: Human Revolution (with its DLC), Nexuiz and DIRT Showdown. Pretty sweet if you ask me, remember these are all american prices so us aussies get our prices raised down abit more since we pay abit more. The 7770 also got a price cut from $150 to $139. What's everyone's opinion on this? Was it expected for AMD to make this cut? All I know is, if nVidia dont follow suit, well a good $100+ difference between the AMD 7970 and the gtx 680 for abit better performance imo isnt worth it. Hopefully nvidia does follow though and we see a good price war, either way we win in my eyes.

This is great timing. I just designed a system for my brother that has the 7950 in it. Now it's cheaper and he'll have some games to play (good ones, too!)

Just need to see how Ivy Bridge gets priced to see if it's worth grabbing over a 2500K.

It's all good though, we won't see these savings. The Australian distributors will keep the prices high, as the demand is still high.

Prices at what's probably NZ's top computer retailer just dropped by $NZ 70 for the HD 7970 and $50 for the HD 7950.

I'm considering getting a 7950 now, hopefully it will be a nice upgrade from my GTX 560.

I got my Sapphire 7970 3gb @ msy on the 4/4/12 for a whopping $578 and now they announce price cuts :(
The sapphire was about $60 cheaper then the Asus version at the time of purchase (both where reference cards) So it wasnt really that bad, but another price drop would of been alot better on everyones wallets..

think yourselves lucky mine was over 800 inc post
but then i have had it a while now :)
plan was to find another secondhand when they got cheaper and crossfire drivers were working better with 7970 but its such a boring card to oc ~1150mhz with stock cooling and v and 1200 fairly stable with a little extra v then watercooling made no difference at all
so its a nice card for a low v air oc but its just boring on water im tempted to ditch it at the first opportunity

Seems most of the prices dropped on PCCG, the MSI Lightning 7970 stayed the same though. Wonder if that's gonna drop; kinda tempted by it because it's faster than crossfired 5870 and stupidly over-engineered.

Would imagine not though, they have a high development cost to recoup.

Considering how good it is out of the box though, it's probably only $20 overpriced compared to the rest of them now. Not sure if I should get a lightning or a stock card and drown it. Or even a 680.

On another note I used to be indecisive, but now I am not so sure. :/

925 -1200 is boring? I'd say it's a pretty good overclock personally :P What else would you buy? The GTX 680 is even less fun to OC, and there isn't really any other option around.

its not the level of oc thats boring its the fact that it gets that far on stock cooling and v then goes no further that is boring its basically just notch up the slides in ccc and leave it be
like i said its a nice card for someone that doesnt have water and im well aware that the gtx680 is the same so im just wondering whats next and how far away it is :)

it really doent matter which card you get there both are good with cons and pros depending on what you want to do with it

get a 680, although the people who bought 7970's will tell you their cards are better for obvious reasons.

The same could be said of those who bought 680's :)

I got 7970's, as when both are run at around 1150MHz the 7970 is faster.
